I wasn't sure about it at first, but now that it's close to completion I think it looks fantastic?

Air conditioner in this place is a joke.
Have a one bedroom apartment and am paying for an AC unit in the livingroom/diningroom. I came to find out It's only 9000BTUs for a big, big room that faces southwest. The heat is unbearable in the hot months.Depsite 4 trips from maintenance it never cools right--That's because the unit is too small. Also, electrical is antiquated so you can't run the microwave and a small appliance at the same time-- the breakers trip.
No overhead lighting in LR/DR so dark
Otherwise the place is lovely--an oasis like the ad says.Beautiful grounds. Lots and lots of free activities for seniors.Movie theatre and cultural activities that are not hokey.
Great transportation and so far staff's super friendly.
Outside area near Curson cafe and behind activities center:Lighting isn't good enough so an accident waiting to happen at night.

I´ve read these people bitchin and moanin about all their problems. It sounds to me though that they have personal issues with mgmt and not general information. I´ve been here for 7 years and have enjoyed my Aad and the location's amazing. My suggestion to those who are bitching is to go look around the surrounding areas and see if you can find a gated community, with all this place offers for rtthe price you are paying. I work downtown and can´t tell you how nice It's to come home to a relaxed community. By the way, what all those other poeple are not telling you is that 12,000 people live here so , if only 5 or 6 people are bitchin, those are great odds. It´s a cool place.

The Good: 2bdrm tower apt is a nive size and layout. Everything you need is within walking distance. Staff are Farm and responsive to maintenance issues.
The Bad: NO AIR CONDITIONING!!!!!, units have large windows and they heat up fast. loud. A lot of smokers. Tennents are mainly disrespectful of others and the grounds (lots of litter, cig. butts all over the place).

I got one of the many 24hr notice from maintance re: repairs to my Aad as instructed by the Los Angeles Housing Dept. It said they would be there between 8-5:00pm on Monday 6/22/09. The repairs were to patch & paint the small bathroom. I leave a note as usual not to let my cats get out so keep the front door closed. Luckily I came home from a weekend away at around 10:30am. My front door was open & screen door ajar. When I walked into my Aad, the entire place was covered with heavy duty plastic and 2 guys were painting the entire Aad. I screamed where are my cats? I totally lost it beyond belief. My cats were under the daybed which had been covered completely with the heavy plastic so they could not get out of it. If I had not come home when I did, they could have died from asphyxiation or at the least they wouldn't be able to get to their litterbox; water or food. I had already planned on moving out when my lease was up at the end of August. These apartments are the worse I have ever lived in. I've lived in more than dozen places and no where else comes close and for the amount of rent It's beyond ridiculous. I am going to file a complaint with the BBB. I've had enough.

They are con artists and will get you to sign a lease, bait and switch. Once you sign the lease, you are trapped! There's no way out of it and once your lease Itays up it automatically renews for another year. It's impossible to break the lease unless you pay 2 full months of rent plus the current months rent. The paper-thin windows might as well not be there since they don't keep any noise out. Parking Itays a mess and There's never any parking when I come after 10 PM. I have to park on the street and then wake up at like 6 am to move my car. EVIL!!.

I don't know where to start with this Pite. Almost everything is wrong with it! From the rude and totally incompetent mgmt, over-priced rent, lack of service, excessive noise, trash collection, parking problems, lack of any response to the residents concerns,...I could fill up 10 pages just talking about my miserable experience within this past year here. I have lived in a lot of apartments but this one, BY FAR, is the worst! I wish I had read the reviews before I wasted my money in this dump! I hope people read this before moving in and stay away from this Pite. Maybe if You've got no new renters in this economy and the old ones are moving out, they will learn their lesson and change their useless mgmt.

Parking for guests is difficult to find after 8 p.m, almost impossible after 9 p.m. Helicopters and Fire trucks (station is practically across the street) make it's loud at night. Security is a thin facade, two of my motorcycles were stolen here. Power, water, and elevators go out of service regularly. Staff are undertrained. Laundry facilities often have dead (sometimes live) cockroaches on the floor, usually one must wait for a machine on weekends. Lease renewals are one year at a time; i.e. no month-to-month when the lease expires.

The Facade vs. Reality at Park La Brea Apartments, When you first visit Park La Brea Apartments, you're greeted with a picturesque park setting, complete with fountains and lush greenery. The premises boast non-smoking signs and strict pet policies, promising a serene and clean living environment. Initially, it appears as if you've found a perfect haven. However, the reality behind this idyllic facade quickly unfolds once you become a tenant. The beautiful park masks the omnipresent patrol cars and bicycles that do little to enhance security. The non-smoking policy is a mere suggestion, as corridors often reek of marijuana, exposing residents, including pregnant women and children, to secondhand smoke. The stringent pet policy unravels as you realize every dog is deemed a "service dog," yet incessant barking and poor behavior abound, contrary to expectations of service animal conduct. Management's outwardly friendly demeanor fades away, leaving you with unresponsive and, at times, downright rude interactions. Requests for assistance or complaints about maintenance issues like wall cracks, which require constant attention, are met with silence or empty promises. Cockroach infestations plague the apartments, compromising health and comfort, with management's advice boiling down to "keep calling the patrol" – a futile suggestion that adds to the frustration. This complex, while promising peace and safety, delivers a living experience far removed from the initial impression.

This place is awesome! I have lived here for some time now, and I have little to qualm about. The mgmt is prompt about maintenance issues, the office staff has generally been helpful, and the cost vs what you get seems to be a pretty good value. The ratings, though, always seem to hover around 50%- this confuses me. I have met most of my neighbors, and they all seem extremely happy that they live here. Then something dawned on me- the way that the apartments are set up here almost force a form of community on people. There will be, of course, people who don't like this. You've got also the tower apartments, from what I have heard and read, are not something many people are impressed with. This may be what accounts for the 50% rating. I might also be lucky in that I have found a location's Astounding in PLB. If you are considering this area (in a approximately central location of LA's culture) take a tour of PLB and you will understand how a community is fostered here.
