Currently live at the Ashby (May 2015). Have had a rodent infestation for four months and finally had to contact the Health Dept. as Management was indifferent to my requests for assistance. Regional Management is abrasive, on-site manager is lazy and the premises are not maintained. It's a shame since the units are lovely and have so much potential.

I currently live in the Ashby in my second apartment in the building. 1st apartment, was 3rd floor facing the building next door. The apartment was ok, nothing special but the people that live next door are animals with no consideration to their neighbors. Constant shouting matches between the two buildings would keep me up all night at times. people playing drums in the middle of the night etc. Also because the next door building is so close unless your on the 5th floor, youll never get any natural sunlight ever. This apt was pest free for the most part. saw maybe two small roaches the entire time in that apt. ( 1 year) . also as this apt was next to the elevator, you could hear the old rickety elevator go up and door each time as if it was in your apt. Drove me crazy after a while. As soon as my year lease was up, i transferred to a different apt facing out towards 8th street. 2nd apartment. Looked at the apartment before they had cleaned it, and signed a new lease suspecting they would do a pro job as it was filthy! well moving day came and it was still a mess. everything in the kitchen was covered in a sticky goo-ey film. The cabinets, stove, everything was sticky to the touch. The floors in the kitchen had almost a half inch of guck in places. I alerted Gil, the manager. He brought someone in to clean, again, they did a half --- job. I basically wound doing it my self out of frustration. The floors in the rest of the apt were scuffed up, cracked, splintering, and had gummy residue all over. again, i basically had to take care of all this myself, on my hands and knees with a gum scraper and goo-gone. On top of that, this apt is prone to many roaches! They come and spray all the time, it doesn't do anything, and I dont leave food/dishes out and take the trash out daily. still roaches no matter what i do. The outside of my windows are filthy so that "view" they charge a premium for,is worthless as you can barely see through the dirt. asked if they ever planned on cleaning, them, Gil said no. Would be a decent view if the windows were clean. When my one year was up, even though this is a "rent controlled" building, they tried to raise the rent. I had to sign on for another year to keep it the same and as i wasnt ready to move right away I had to sign or pay even more, for the same crappy apt. Basically they are way overpriced compared to other buildings in the area and a little out of touch with what other buildings are offering for the same price or less. The lobby is nice but its mostly a facade. Ive noticed them renovating other apartments with really nice floors, counter tops, etc but it seem very selective and im sure they charge a ton for these newly flipped apts. I must say, although this apt sucks, Gil and the management do respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner although the results are mostly lackluster, they do try. they just hire a ------ crew to do the work for them and dont check the results. Gil himself is a cool guy and expresses concern over matters but i get the feeling his hands are tied on most matters. The tenants in the building are all pretty quiet, and range from families, young adults, etc. Ive never had any issues with neighbors, every one is pretty friendly. All that said, once my lease is up in May Im leaving and never looking back. I wouldn't recommend this building unless your really in a pinch and even then, if you look around, you'll find something way better for the price which seems to be going up daily with no reason.

Very bad mice infestation!! Management is negligent & will charge you for their negligence. Takes forever for anything to be fixed. And all management said when I told him & showed him the mice was "I don't have any". (-------) It was so bad I had to call the Health department on them & they are currently under investigation.Management wouldn't let me even switch apartment and was forced to leave .
