“Moved in this Fall and the experience has been great so far. Landlord Susan has been very helpful and quick to respond with apartment fixes like carpet cleaning and A/C. She usually gets back to you within a day of the request.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“I am going on my second year living here and have had a very positive experience. Our unit is clean and the building manager is very responsive to our requests for repairs and such. As far as Westwood goes, the units are more affordable than others.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“This apartment is one of the best value for price apartments around UCLA. Walk able distance to UCLA as well as Westwood. A lot has changed recently in this apartment for good. Landlord Susan is helpful and friendly. You are all good if you don't party really hard and pay your rent at the right times. Only disadvantage I can think of is that it is not possible to extend lease on a monthly basis. I would totally recommend this apartment.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“I hate the management system which operates by Solutions in LA, they hired bunch of inane Non-English speaker, mostly -------. Although my primary language is French, it would be much nicer and convenience for many tenant whose having a contract through Solutions in LA. Every first day of the month, I have to swing by their office to make a payment and they are always eating and those -------------- employees never brushing their teeth, and they have such a strong body odor, especially ----- girl who sat way in the back and pretends doing something. The worst thing is their manager always spoke ------- in the office. I'm very tolerance on his language barrier but 'when you in Rome, do as Romans, their major task is to working with clients from different country at the daily basis. So they should at least being capable to contain certain level of English proficiency unless you know french.”
“Staffs at the Solutions in LA, their lack of communication skills were the only issue. Their manager Arkar can't even speak single word in English which was fine, but the rest of his staff members are so vacuous in many ways. There was one Asian girl at that corner who seems reclusive from her cowoker, I had never talk to her but I had noticed that she smells weird. It was painful moment to me every time I went there to make a payment. I can't wait to go back to London”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“Stay away from this place because A) looks like crap B) elevators and garage smells like smoke all the time C) landlord is not the kindest person D) landlord is unbudging when it comes to rent: LL wants one check only so you have to collect rent from all your roommates and then write a check, which is very tedious compared to online payments. E) rent is expensive for the place F) the apartment is old and the "spa" on top is disgusting and out of order G) this is a big one: the mailing system is complete crap. Packages get stolen and there is virtually no way for mail carriers to deliver mail. There is just a bench in the open where people steal your package. H) the directory doesn't work so if you order pizza or something you have to get down and meet them. Avoid this place.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“Im pretty sure I was a potential victim of unfair housing law by the manager Susan* read below My first call was to inquire about price, lease duration and vacancy, the manager didnt talk about price until she knew my name (Latino sounding name). As soon as she knew my name she said the price would be $2,600 to $2,800. when i rebuttled to say my last apartment , 2 blocks away, was $2,300, she responded with "well thats the price around here HONEY" Basically bullying me to take her options or go and F*ck myself When my friend called 5 minutes later He was able get an apartment for $2,400 with a 9 month lease... the only difference between me and my friend was the type of name and difference in pitch of voice we are both males, my name is very Latino sounding and the pitch of my voice is low, my friend is also male and has a very american sounding name but Higher pitch voice (He sounds very feminine / he is always mistaken for a women on the phone) basically : i called said my name and get a 12 month lease for $2,600-$2,800/month with no other option 5 min later My friend calls and gets an apartment for $2,400 with a 9 month lease (WTH??!!?) I hope no one has to go through this kind of experience but i would like to know if any one else experienced this with the manager(susan) ...im hoping it was a fluke and not a style of business.. with that being said I direct you to 690 veteran where you will meet the nicest landlady ever MiMi she is the best- she doesnt act like a land lady but like a mom always checking up on you and has the biggest heart... in addition Manager(Susan) appears very friendly and welcoming, Until you sign the lease then she becomes bipolar in her attitude ( some times kinda nice, but mostly Grouchy) Her good days: she is kinda nice Bad Days: if you have a question or concern because something is unclear she responds to you as if you are bothering her (F*ck her and keep asking your questions until you understand everything) *** Your returned security deposite will be returned with all leases names, she will say that she cant put the check in one name but YES she can, all you have to do is tell her and make a letter explaining what you want and she will do it... but she will make it difficult for you!!**** apartment sprinkler broke twice, once at 3am in my closet (she fixed it the next day and carpet cleaned my entire apartment which was the weirdest thing ever cuz she is always a hassle to deal with but did something "nice" for me and the roomates) so make your decision wisely and try different accents and have different genders inquire about apartments see if you notice any difference by the way you are treated”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“Mixed reviews for this one. Well, you get what you pay for. These apartments are really cheap among the 2bhks you can find within a walking distance to the university. I stayed here for a year and then moved out to wellworth avenue. They were okay enough to let me endure one whole year here, but not good enough to make me extend my lease. Basically I could afford more after that year, and I decided to go to a place I wouldn't be ashamed to show to the people who come to visit me. This apartment complex has everything for your basic needs: Less priced, more spacious apartments, a laundry room on the lowest level, and a trash outlet on every floor. When you move in, everything will be painted and the carpet will be changed fine. The initial deposit is around a thousand bucks, and you will get back around 400 of that, don't expect more. Parking is closed and allotted, but not included in the rent. As I said, you get what you pay for. Everything is good as long as you stay INSIDE the apartment. Its when you go outside your apartment that things get ugly. The building is not maintained well, and from the outside, it looks like some shady place where drug dealers would live. Oh well that reminds me, when I stayed here, there WERE drug dealers who lived on the first floor! Those guys performed robberies in nearby buildings (of course our building was safe since they themselves lived here) and were being searched by the police since years. Finally there was a raid in the building, there was SWAT who positioned themselves on the floor and fired gunshots and caught them and put them in jail. Yeah I know what you're thinking, you can't trust your neighbors here unless you know them from before. The building is a mess, I don't even know if they clean the outside. There is a hot tub on the roof which is always cold. There is no such thing as security in this building, sure, there is a locked entry, but the lock is almost always open for some reason. For all the fanatic people, this building is right next to the graveyard. And the noise, of course the noise. There is at least a party every night! This place has the feeling of a frat house to it, definitely not for people who are looking for a quiet environment. But then the apartments are good, there is a new management now which is definitely wayy better than the reign of Elina who was a fraud and would tell students higher prices than the original to bag in some extra money. The best part about this complex is the maintenance though, I have not seen such amazing maintenance response in any other place. Alberto is awesome!!! I would trust that guy with my life, forget about my apartment. He can fix anything to everything, and was more of a friend than a maintenance guy. He not only would listen to your issues but would also understand your problem and fix it with his heart. Unless you live in a better apartment you don't realize what a crappy place you lived in earlier. When I was at 512 veteran I was not unhappy, but not happy either. The place was liveable for the price. But I would not recommend this apartment complex. If you can afford even a tad bit more, go elsewhere.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“I lived here for one year and moved out this summer. The manager was a pain in the --- to deal with. Always postponed stuff and never got things done.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“I lived in this apartment for 5 years and it is terrible. They don't care about the people who live here. If you have any choice, don't move here.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“I have lived here for the past year. When I moved in there were a lot of problems. Since that time, the new manager has done a really good job of turning this place around. I am very happy here.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“DON'T Rent here unless you want your security deposit taken away for no reason at all. The new manager is a TOTAL ----- to the max. Trust me, we were pretty much perfect tenants with no problems. Never asked for anything and then they basically took all our deposit so that they could upgrade the place since its a ---- hole. They said its "standard procedure" my A$$. Don't go there. There was also a drug bust in the apartment next to us. Cops raided the place at 4am which was insane and we all felt super unsafe after cause the guy has guns and ---- in there.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“They finally got rid of Elana who would never return calls and let this place turn to $#*!. I've been here this past year and was here 2 years ago. I only came back here because there was nothing else available and I can walk to school and the price is good compared to some of the other buildings in the area. Remember it IS Westwood and many of the buildings in this area next to UCLA are priced way too high. They brought in Angela the new manager about a month or so ago. It's like night & day compare to Elena. Angela actually returns your call the same day and when I had a couple of repairs I needed she got right on it and had the maintenance guy there the same day on my first repair and the next day on my 2nd request. I was shocked! LOL So I'm thinking things may be turning around here. Angela is very nice and ACTUALLY listens to you. I am only posting this because she really is a pleasant person to deal with and is at least trying hard to get things done. I've talked to my neighbors and they are happy Angels is here too I am only giving the Overall rating 3 stars because she has only been here a short time.”

— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“I ------- hate that elena -----. she should be deported back from wherever she came from. Her management skills are non exsistant. I have never seen a more disgusting unkept complex in all my life. She refuses to give us the information for the actual owner(as if we are not going to call the public records and find out) Something breaks here like every week and the maintenance people spend all their time working on the damn patio while the apartments are all falling the ---- apart. Our fridge that the apartments provided us with exploded! Yes, it burst into flames. The worst part is that the sprinklers didnt even come on while our kitchen was burning down. WTF? This place never gets hot water and was full of grease the day we moved in. The manager refuses to let us replace ourselves on the lease because of course everyone wants to get out of this place once they realize that ''luxury apartment" sign on the front of the property is a bunch of --------. I hate these apartments. If I could I would sue their --- to kingdom come then sue them again.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“All units are 2bed/2bath. When I lived there (I just moved out), rent ranged from 2650-2850 per month, trash and water are covered. $1000 security deposit. When you sign the lease, you sign a supplemental form that says you agree to pay a cleaning fee of $400 regardless of how you leave the apartment upon move out. The landlady gave us a copy of the lease, but when my roommates and I moved out we noticed she neglected to give us a copy of the supplemental form. We visited her office and she made a copy of the supplemental form - and that was that! Also, you pay an additional $40 deposit for a parking space. This was returned in full when we gave back the garage remote when we moved out. **I should note, the security deposit and first month rent must be paid in cash or cashier's check. She does not accept personal checks for this. Afterward, you may pay your monthly rent with personal checks. Pros: Decent-sized living space especially if you live in units that cost 2750 or 2850 per month. The main difference is the size of the living room --- my roommates and I felt the living rooms of the 2650 units were a little too compact for our liking. Bedroom closets are relatively roomy. Also, there are plenty of laundry machines on-site. 5 washers, 5 dryers. You use a special laundry card (as opposed to quarters) -- so you don't need to carry around change! Maintenance is pretty good about fixing damages you might incur during your stay. My oven broke - I reported it to the landlady, and within a week maintenance came in and replaced my entire oven with a new one for free! It's also good that each unit has an electrical switchboard in the master bedroom. Several times my roommate would use the microwave, toaster oven, and coffee machine at once (all on the same circuit). Of course, this overloaded that circuit and it would short. This was easily solved by flipping the corresponding power switch conveniently located on our personal switchboard! By comparison, I haven't located the switchboard in my new apartment... I don't think I have access to it, so if I have a short in my new apartment it looks like I'll need to call maintenance/an electrician to fix it. Also, there is a trash chute on each floor. However, you have to walk to the garage to dispose of recyclables. Cons: Rent here is on the expensive side for North Village, even if you divide it among 4 roommates (here I paid $687.50 per month individually --- in the new place I live, I pay $566.66 per month individually, which is probably closer to the median rent you'd find in this area. I have met friends who pay ~$400 elsewhere in North Village, but this is not common). Also, this is a relatively HUGE apartment complex for the North Village. There are about 4 floors and 14 units per floor. Assuming there live about 4 people per unit, there were about 200 residents in the building. Living in the "Love Boat" often felt like living in the dorms. All of the residents I ever saw were undergrad students. Folks liked to throw parties during the school year. Since most/all of the bedroom windows face the tile/cement inner court, it was really easy to hear the activity of kids running up and down the stairs, yelling across the way, their cell phone conversations and their arguments. Although the manager lives on-site, she often was out during the evenings so she wasn't around to address the ruckus. Another con is that the walls are somewhat thin - it's easy to hear what's going on in the bedroom next to you, if you know what I mean. Cons regarding laundry machines: the laundry cards only accept $5 bills and upward. You can't deposit $1 bills or quarters into the card. Also, the laundry machines are somewhat pricey - washer charges $1.25 per load, dryer charges $1.00 or $1.25 per load (I forget). If you like to divide your clothes by color like me, I found it most economical to wash the colors separately then throw them all together in a single dryer afterward. That way, colors don't bleed. Be careful though --- if the load is really large altogether, your clothes might not dry completely. I always made sure jeans and towels were washed and dried separately from my other cotton clothes because they're so heavy ---- it was nearly impossible to dry them together. Overall, I didn't love living here mostly because of its price and because of the unavoidable noise and activity from so many "energetic" undergrad residents -- but I didn't hate it either. It did the job. The maintenance crew was good. Fortunately, the manager will be nice to you and will be more responsive to your requests if you prove to be a "good neighbor". Overall, I'd give it 3 or 3.5 stars out of 5.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“OK so I read all of those reviews before moving in and they were so wrong! This place is perfectly fine. The units are big, and well kept, and I don't know what people are saying about the manager not caring. Every single time we asked her for something it was done within 24 hours for free. She let me pay rent several days late when I was low on cash, and worked with me on a payment plan for parking. She is so nice, and the maintenance guy fixes whatever you ask for within no time. I always had hot water, and never had any of the problems described. I bet all of those reviews were the same guy...I'm happy I didn't let those reviews influence my decision.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“I was subletting at this apartment, and it was sooo ------. The ceiling had a horrible water leak and holes; the kitchen had roaches and a leaky faucet as well; there were lots of bug problems and water leaks/damage throughout the apartment. I do not recommend that you live here at all. The apartment manager is NEVER there. When I finally did see her, I told her about the bug/roach problem, and she told me not to worry and that it would be cleared up in a couple of weeks. She only wants your money. Trust me--do not live here. This is definitely not a good place to live”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“When I first tried to move in on the first day of my lease, I drove 300 miles and showed up at the apartment complex with all of my furniture only to find out that the previous tenants had not moved out yet. Over the phone, I had specifically stated that I would be moving on September the 1st. On the 1st, the manager informed me that I could move in in a couple of days after the apartment was cleaned. What was I supposed to do with my stuff? She suggested that I put it in storage (paid for by ME). When it was time to move in, she gave me a key to the door and front gate. When my 3 apartmentmates tried to move in, she said that she had "LOST" all of the other sets of keys and that I would have to make copies of the keys for my roommates (which I gladly did and never got reimbursed for). Two weeks after I had moved in, the ceiling above my bathroom collapsed, rendering it "out of order" for 3 weeks. Not only could we not use the bathroom or shower, repairmen would come sporadically, to patch it up little by little. To this very day, the ceiling is still not finished, the light fixture has not been correctly installed, and there is plaster/dust coating everything in there. Other miscellaneous problems: Our dishwasher and sink leaks, there are termites in the cabinets, the air conditioning (set at 50 degrees Fahrenheit) only spews out warm air, and my clothes came out of the washer DIRTIER than they went in! The manager does not answer any of your calls and is never available in her office to address any of these issues. Therefore, she is conveniently not there when your heavy upstairs neighbors are throwing a huge party at 3am or your bedroom smoke detector starts leaking and making constant buzzing sounds throughout the night (true stories!). Others have said that Elena only cares about collecting rent and it is the truth. Only move here if you can deal with having an unresponsive manager, a filthy complex, nonworking appliances, loud neighbors, and pet termites.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“If you enjoy life at all, don't live in Veteran Plaza Apts. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong at some point. Our showers repeatedly lacks hot water, the elevators work infrequently at best (and are a year over their expiration date), the landlord is hard to reach, the septic tank broke in the garage and sewage was left to rot for like a week, and the landlord walks around at night listening to rooms to try to find parties. Personally, I would rather live in those poisonous FEMA trailers than live here.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“Let me preface what I am going to say with some facts: yes, I am a fairly tall dude, and no I dont have a regular bowel movement schedule. However, I have not been able to take one good dookie since I moved in because the toilet has the flushing power of my electic toothbrush--I have to plunge that filthy dirty swamp every other day. I clog that nasty little porcelin shrine all too frequently--I have stopped going all together as of late.
Another thing: the manager told me the rooms are 12 by 12 before I moved in. Now, do to the furniture we bought ahead of time and the fact that the rooms are about 10.5 by 10.5, I am sleeping about 1 foot away from my jet black haired roomie (which is to say nothing of our other roommates, who somehow manage to sleep even closer, while sharing a undie drawer separated by what they claim is a "sock boundary." Also, apparently they once got "mixed up about the boundary," and you can guess what that means. Not the point. Where was I? Oh, well we are pretty positive the dishwasher is not connected to the wall, our room light doesnt work, the balcony is an actual invested swampland because there is no drainage for rain, and there is a real chance the ceiling in the kitchen is going to collapse under the pressure of water leaking from a sprinkler. Its not great, but we like to say its our own little home.
Relevant comparisons: its a hovel, a damp/musky cave, its comparable to "living behind the iron curtain," or its the worst apartment in Westwood.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“Don'T move in here, EVER! we are currently experiencing an ordeal with her (the manager) in which she rented out our apartment for the entire next year, without notice! this we all found out barely 1 month before our termination of lease and the only reason we did find out is because one of our old roomates called. mind you we have been faithful renters for about 4 years and all she has done is invade our privacy (I.E. showing people the apartment when we are not there) and claim that we ae "harassing her" when we need to speak with her about our current situation. needless to say we are reporting her to the housing department of los angeles and hope that we find a new place, in adequate time for school to start.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“Manager is Shady. She only cares about your money and nothing else. The place is a dump. She'll screw you over and wouldn't care as long as she got paid. She won't return your deposit either and will ignore all your calls and attempts to get it back. JUST SHADY.”
— 512 VETERAN AVE · Westwood“The manager is literally never there. Only one elevator works the entire year except during summer when a lot of people are looking for apartments (meaning it's turned off on purpose). The place is a total dump. Parking is horrible. Never responds to any request for repair. Thursdays are very noisy due to people partying. Hot water gets turned off with little warning. Takes huge sums of money out of your deposit for "cleaning" when in fact the next person gets something very close to the same thing like it's been never cleaned. Kicks you out early with less than a day of notice if the manager knows you're moving out and someone else wants to move in. The beggars in Westwood probably had better living than me - at least they have street cleaning.”
