“I want to be truthful and courteous to the people who work in this building; the problems my neighbors and I are facing has just reached a boiling point. Today, I witnessed a young girl screaming and crying in the lobby: "he pinned me down and started hitting me." She's referring to a resident on our floor; the ninth. I have been here almost 5 years and anyone in this building knows exactly who I am talking about. You know, the one who's been in a dozen brawls on nearly every floor of this building. The extensive damage, the 4am rap battles, the exploded fire extinguishers, the blood on the walls, feces on the floor..you read that correctly. There's also the revolving door of crying women. But the cops come. There's chit chat. And he stays... and then another fight happens..for everyone to see. Everyday it's something new. He's terribly consistent. Management is shaky to take any decent action- citing a COVID tenant bill (really?) (also: read the bill...has nothing to do with this). I suppose the word 'problem' would be an understatement. He's a plague with complete disregard for his fellow neighbors and we DO NOT feel safe on this floor anymore. It's been a year now and we're exhausted in complaining about the matter. To my question: how long is management going to turn a blind eye before something really happens?”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“Landlord does not maintain building like at all. Elevators constantly down, air conditioning cuts out when it’s hot and is so noisy the apartment is essentially uninhabitable when it’s on, laundry is frequently out etc. interior finishes and appliances aren’t great. Management staff has to be pestered to do anything like send you a copy of the lease and fix things in common areas. Last year they hiked my rent 11% with no notice (they claimed the slid a letter under the door but it was never received). The 11% was only if I signed another 12 month lease; 25% increase if I stayed on a month to month. Counting the days until me lease is up in six months.”
“I've only be here for a month and it seems the management is not doing a good job. Package addressed to me was returned because the list of tenant the security guard use does not contain my name. The package never made its way back to the sender though. Waiting to see how this issue would be resolved.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“Good people from the management office including the security guards and maintaness ppl. If you like the urban living, this is the right place you want to move in. parking is just right next to the building plus this is the historical building in Downtown LA.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I have lived in my loft for a little over a year now and I am dying to get out of here. I moved into this building because-at the time- it was inexpensive compared to other trendy lofts downtown. I like the security, obviously, and the parking isn't too bad but it is expensive and can get full during events. The loft itself is a cool space- my loft has five 7ft-tall windows and and a nice sized bathroom. Here are my problems: 1. The windows are single-paned-which means even if they are closed, you can hear all downtown noise loud and clear. I have been on the phone with people in my loft and they comment on how loud it is. I remind them all of my windows are closed. One of my windows won't even stay closed because the lock doesn't work. I haven't reported it to maitinece because there is only one person capable of fixing all of the problems in the building, which brings me to my second complaint... 2. Management: The people who run this building are useless idiots. They never do anything they promise to do for their tenants. I'll give you an example, someone had been trying to reach me but my phone wasn't working, so they called management and asked if they could slip a note under my door. Sounds like a simple task, especially for someone who promises to make every tenant's stay as enjoyable as possible. I never got a note under my door, and when I ran into one of the leasing managers two weeks later he let me know someone was trying to reach me. The matinence guy at the building is very nice and works hard when he is here but it takes a while for him to get around to everyone. My smoke alarm has been chirping at me for two days now, and when I reported it to the morons at the front desk, I was promised they would get to it "As soon as possible." 3. The lighting sucks. There are are two lights above my kitchenette and one in the bathroom-that's all. There is also not enough storage space (cabinets/shelves). 4. And yes, people leave dog ---- all over the place. Some tenants will even leave boxes and trash by the elevator. In summary, my two major problems are the noise and the management. Also, the building doesn't seem to be well insulated, as I can hear my neighbors having sex twice a day. When the artwalk is going on, don't expect to go to sleep at a decent hour. Before I moved here, I read the reviews and thought that people were just venting because they were upset at something that happened to them that made them snap. That is, essentially, what I am doing mainly because I am going insane with this smoke alarm chirping at me 2-3 times per minute! Would I recommend it: NO But: It is a secure building, they have a WiFi room, an exercise room, an entertainment room with a large TV, a pool table, and it is close to the fashion and art districts.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I have lived here for about 6 months. So far i am content with the building overall. The major complaints i have are noise and pet owners. I live in a unit facing the parking garage and the street level noise is too much for me to handle. Almost every visitor i have comments on the high noise levels from the large trucks and constant sirens. If i were to guess i would say a good average for fire truck or police siren is about once per hour, nights included. Can management outfit building wiht douple pane or sound proof windows? Second complaint is pet owners, I love animals but the owners of many of the animals in the building are not responsible and leave pet urine and fecies around the building and in the alley between the building and parking lot. I almost stepped in a pile of fecies on my floor and the same pile was not cleaned up for at least two weeks! Love pets but not their "gifts".. Overall, cool building to live in if you dont mind noise. I would renew my lease if above issues were addressed. Have 6 more months and am looking for a quieter building to move to after lease is up..”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I do not recommend the Security Lofts. While there are minor perks, the cons far outweigh the benefits. The leasing tour puts on a good show, but once you sign the lease, watch out! The manager and leasing agents are unprofessional, untrained, and incompetent. Agent did poor job of explaining leasing terms and did not know how to do a walk-through. Staff acted passive-aggressively when we gave them a poor evaluation. We've had leaks in our loft 4 times in the past 9 months. Our neighbors have had similar leaks. Maintenance is understaffed. There was a 2X2 hole in our bathroom which took 4 months to get fixed. Hallways and elevators are frequently dirty. The loft with windows closed is so entirely noisy. Sirens, trash trucks, car horns, people talking. Don't expect to sleep past 7am on the weekends and 6 on the weekdays. Noise all through the night from people coming out of bars, even on weekdays. During Art Walk, parking and driving in the area is a nightmare. It gets especially noisy with several bands going on the street at once some nights. Tenants leave dog pee and poo in hallway. Owners do not pick up dog poo near parking structure-terrible stench and watch where you walk on trips to/from parking structure. Parking is expensive ($150/month per car, no assigned parking) and forget about having guests unless you want to spend $5 per guest/day $14 overnight. Like I said, they put on a good show in the beginning, but its not worth the money, even with a good deal.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“1. if you fill out their annual review, enticing you with their free breakfast, money giveaways, its a way to increase your rent by 30%, only if you gave them a good positive review. 2. the thin 1/8" thick of single glazing does nothing to reduce noise, and heat. 3. the maintenance staff could not fix the leak from the unit above twice. 4. intense odor of dog feces can be obsorbed entering/exiting the parking garage. 5. some of the tenants are paying nearly half of what i'm paying.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“No matter how many people have moved in and out, we've always had a problem with noisy neighbors. Living in a unit facing inside (towards other units) has proved to be more disruptive than living in one facing the street. Because it's L.A. people naturally will have their windows open, and even if your own windows are closed, the noise definitely carries. Some guys just moved in across the way, but they're so loud you'd think they were in our apartment. I don't know why, but apparently when they're not blasting their dance party mix, they love to have their astute ... profound conversations right by their open window. Philosphers they aren't. I could care less about their mothers or their girls.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“They have a new manager named Matthew Spriggs he doesn't care much. Try living there and you'll see what I mean.Talking about plastic, he's plastic as can be.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“The management recently changed and they are not very nice and not attentive. They are horrible to get back to you about any questions and don't really care if you decide to move out or not. I would want them at least to show some type professionalism by getting back to me. The overall place is nice and quiet. I would recommend this place if you're rarely home”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I just moved in this beautiful loft couple weeks ago. and I am really happy with this place. Although I am on second floor, with the door closed, you can hardly hear any noise from the street. Good people from the management office including the security guards and maintaness ppl. If you like the urban living, this is the right place you want to move in. parking is just right next to the building plus this is the historical building in Downtown LA.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“We have lived here since May 2005 and the building overall is very nice with reasonable rent. Noise can be an issue because of the historical windows so stay away from units facing the street but if you live in downtown you have to deal with the constant traffic and sirens. When we first moved in the surrounding area was a bit scary but it's been improving... slowly. Maintenance people are quick and very nice.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I moved in a little over a month ago and absolutely love it here. The apartments are beautiful, have historic charm, and reasonably priced, I love the polished concrete! The walls here are solid I love not ever hearing my neighbors, and I can play music and have a party without any issue. I dont know what all the reviews are saying about noise, of course there is a bit of noise you live in DOWNTOWN not the suburbs! Management is great I haven't had any issues. Parking lot is right behind building which is convenient, they keep the door locked some sometimes you have to walk all the way around in the morning. The area isnt bad at all despite what people say. I regularly walk around during the day and the evening to Petes, Banquette, and Old Bank DVD which are right around the corner with no problem. Also Pitfire pizza is a short walk away.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“we have lived in this building for just over a year and are looking for a way out. from security looking at porn in the buisness center, stabbings in the hall way, all night parties, peeling paint, roaches, endless fire alarms at all hours, elevators not working for days on end, memos for repairs/upgrades that happen 3 months later, cabinates falling from walls, dog poo in the lobby, no roof access, can i list anything else? it looks good in the begining but after a few weeks you really start wishing you would have picked that other place. don't let the price fool you. the staff is horrible... except for allan the security man. he is the only great thing about this place always smiling, curtious, and willing to help or chat.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“Many of the previous reviewers seem to be exaggerating big time. Yes, it can be noisy living DOWNTOWN...that's obvious. The complainers should have chose another place to live in the first place. The building is very nice, and has had some problems since it's a newly renovated building. My experience with management has been top notch. They are ALWAYS nice and responsive. Everyone who works here is friendly and helpful. The reviewers who say the employees/ managers are mean and unresponsive must have mental issues. I've asked for help with a couple repair issues, and they were taken care of promptly. When we moved in over a year ago, the surrounding area was questionable, but it has improved many times over. Management has no control over who is walking the streets, but LAPD has moved most of the homeless and oddballs away. I definitely recommend living here, but you just have to keep in mind this is DOWNTOWN, and it's noisy at most locations here.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“Look...this is the honest truth about the lofts at the security building: Is it perfect? No, BUT things continue to get better around here. When problems arise, the manager addresses them. Now, I have talked to some of you have posted these negative comments and you have confesed to me that you have done so because you have nothing else better to do. Get a life! If you want to express your thoughts about this building...BE HONEST! Calling the manager and the staff names is so not called for! YOU HAD A CHOICE TO LIVE HERE OR NOT! NO ONE PUT A GUN TO YOUR HEAD! You know that's is the problem with sites like this. If the management did not care about our concerns, then why did they send out a survey to see how they were doing and in what areas they could improve? I think that means that they take this business very seriously. Think before you write! If you are reading these reviews be very careful about basing your choice based on what these people are writing. Make your own choice because some of these people have thier own motives for writing mean statements.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I lived here from January - November 2006. I am neutral when it comes to recommending it but I want to lean closer to NO if I have to pick one. PROS: -convenient to work if you work in Downtown LA -close to bus and subway stops -clean cozy units -decent fitness center -laundry room on each floor -decent community lounge room -cool neighbors -nice security (allan) -helpful maintenance staff (george) CONS: -bums outside masturbating and taking dumps on the sidewalk -poor management* -section 8 in some units -parking structure is behind the building across the dark dirty alley so you have to pass by bum poop, syringes, used condoms, and used tampons. -closest supermarket is 5 miles away (they are building a new ralphs on 8th though) -no receipts from management -cheap fixtures that broke multiple times -cheap walls that would crumble if you wanted to put a tack to hang a frame -wifi doesnt work half the time -film crews always filming commercials and tv shows in units on my floor, blocking the hallways -one ------ neighbor who tried to run me down in her car when i politely asked her to back up so i can pull out of my spot *they were okay until we decided not to renew the lease then they did not want to give us our deposit. they finally did 3 months after we moved out despite the fact that california has a 21-day law on deposit returns. they only gave me $260 of my $400 deposit back citing that they had to charge me for cleaning the unit, even though my wife and i spent our last two days making the unit spotless and cleaner than it was before we moved in. gwen, the manager even did a walk through and told us that it was super clean and we would get a full deposit back. when i tried to complain to the corporate office (simpson management) no one would return my calls and i ended up giving up because i was already stressed out at work. the management would also just fire the security and maintenance staff if they didnt like them personally, even if the staff were cool with all the tenants and we felt they were doing a great job. so it kind of sucked having rotating guards until allan came.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“This place is the worst place to live! The building itself is not horrible, but the surroundings and atmosphere are awful! The windows in the aprtment are so thin that it sound as if you are living right on the street.

There is wonderful building across the street that has police visits hourly and even better 3 bodies have been removed from the building in the 4 short months I have lived here. There is constent noise 24/7 from inside the bulding, loud fights in the hall, to the homeless population outside. There are also many movie productions going on all night long. I have watched movie company's unloading poles, by throwing them off the truck at 4:00 in the morning. They have no respect for anyone who actually lives down here. Almost everyone in the building are rude, I guess they don't enjoy where they are living either? Just dont move here, PLEASE!”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“the lofts at the security building is like a scary movie. when viewing the lofts everthing seems Pleasant as in "Pleasantville", to good to be true... just like the devils advocate they are sweet, warm heart, and put up a good front, showing you a dream world filled with Amenities: Oversized windows that do not open, 10ft plus ceilings and fantastic views of skid row, Fitness center that smells of death, Entertainment room filled with the scum of the earth, A Business center without a fax, oh and Free wireless internet that never works.. Once you sign your lease, you have sold your soul to the ----- aka the "manager".”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“The unfortunate truth about this building's management is that they truly do not care about the tenants. When you ask that something be fixed, they treat you like you are out of line. They don t even try to hide their true feelings. Unfortunately, they don t fix the problem either. When someone rents an apartment in a building that person is a customer and should be treated with respect. The management at this building does not abide by that basic rule of business.”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I've lived here for nearly 5 months and I absolutely hate it. There is absolutely nothing good about this place. Management is two-face (especially the building manager). They will bend over backwards to get you into the building but will rude and obnoxious when you ask for assistance. The winter months were dreadful because the heater was not working and it took them 5 days before they could send a technician. Even then the heater really wasn't working.

You have to walk completely around the parking structure to get to your car which i found incredibly stupid. Last night, a crackhead was sleeping behind the back door. A bit of an inconvenience.

Allen, the night security guard is nice and helpful, but the rest are a bit creepy. The smell of weed seeps through the venilation so my bathrooms smell like someone just lit up.

There is dog crap all over the the place in the alley.. be very careful where you step and pray it doesn't rain because the smell can be god awful.

”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“I have lived at the Lofts for about 5 months and I love my place! The area surrounding has cleaned up a lot in the past couple of months and I really enjoy walking around and exploring the nature of the downtown atmosphere.

The management staff has been very helpful and if you need anything they are now willing to assist your needs. No one is perfect and I know for a fact that if you have a problem, bring it to Gwen's attention and she will find a resolve! Gwen is a sweet heart and is dedicated to making sure that all the residents are happy with their home...she will go above and beyond her call of duty to make sure that you are happy. If you have a problem and it has not been taken care of, go to Gwen and she will assit in making sure it gets rectified. For anyone who is unhappy...MOVE! If you are still living in the Lofts and you are unhappy, you are the creator of your own destiny so move and let someone who can appreciate all the lofts has to offer! The fitness center and lounge area are beautiful and with any rental community there will always be the select few residents and guests who do not take care of their home. The management staff follows all rules and regulations to qualify households to love in the Lofts! They do and can not give a surveyout on the type of person who is applying to live at the Lofts. This would be against fair housing. So what if there are selected units set aside for affordable housing...this does not mean that we have low income or bad people living at the Lofts...it means that we all have an equal opportunity to live in a NICE place! If there are people not taking care of the Lofts be it inside their home or throughout the community address the situation with management and they can take care of it! I get mad when people destroy the community; writing on the wood walls of the elevator, letting their dogs pee inthe hall ways, or just being disrespectful of other residents, but I tell the management and realize that no matter where you live there are problem residents.

So I say in closing...if you are unhappy LEAVE, if you are happy stay, and if you have a problem, let management know and if not...get over it! The Lofts are a great place to live downtown! I moved here from San Jose and I love it any problems and all...”
— 510 S SPRING ST · Downtown“THE TRUTH IS THAT YES THE BUILDING HAS ISSUES BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ONE THAT DOESNT, I HAVE LIVED HEAR FOR ALMOST A YEAR AND WE HAD REASONABLE EXPECTIONS BUT ALSO UNDERSTOOD THIS IS DOWNTOWN AND ABOVE ALL THIS IS A NEW RESIDENTAL FACILITY, SO WE DID EXPECT KINKS BUT MANAGEMENT HAS BEEN GREAT AS FAR AS THE MAIN MANAGER WE HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HER. WE HAVE GONE TO HER WITH ISSUES AND THEY HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED AND TAKEN CARE OF SOMETIMES THAT DAY SO IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE ENVIRONMENT THATS ONE THING YOU HAVE TO CONSIDER WHEN MOVING DOWNTOWN BUT THE MANAGEMENT IS NOT THE ISSSUE SO DONT LET THAT BE THE REASON NOT TO RENT HERE”
