WASHER (NOT DRYER) caught on fire. MGMT told me "that happens in this building, and to do smaller loads" (I screamed at them a bunch for that one). Washer caught on fire again. Called manufacturer of washer, manufacturer told me the washer was 6 years past its 10-YEAR warranty. MGMT told me "tough". I sat in MGMT office for 1 hour screaming at MGMT until I got a new washer. MGMT smokes cigarettes right outside the door (not 6-feet away), and people always smoke on their balconies, so if you open your windows your apartment will reek of cigarette smoke. Cigarette butts aplenty in public areas. CARBON MONOXIDE billowed thru multiple apartment during garage cleaning. Multiple apartments' alarms went off in middle of night. Called fire dept. The next day MGMT downplayed it telling me completely different things then they were saying when the Fire Dept. was present, claiming it was coincidence that multiple apartments had their CARBON MONOXIDE alarms run out of batteries within a 1-hour period. Toilet bubbles up previously flushed sewage whenever we run the shower. MGMT told me they wouldn't replace the toilet either. Constantly have to call them to clear the pipes, they claim I need to not flush non-waste down the toilet (of course I don't, I'm an adult, I know that). 2 of 3 blinds don't function properly. MGMT has made me so mad though that I'd rather have busted blinds than deal with those walking tumors anymore. When it snows, expect a foot of snow on the sidewalk and street in front of the doorway. None of these men are capable of shoveling spit. A really pretty building though

I love living at the Bernardin!! My husband and I have lived here 3.5 years and couldn't be happier. The staff is absolutely wonderful, the building is well maintained and ever since RKM management took over things have been running very smooth. The building hosts really great happy hours, breakfasts and other fun themed events all year. The building is in close proximity to great restaurants, transportation and all the shopping you could ever want! 5/5 stars!!

Very professional staff - they assisted with the move and are incredibly nice. The building is very upscale with the luxury amenities. I would recommend this place to everyone.

have lived here for a little over a year and love it. the location is wonderfully convenient (a couple blocks from the beach, michigan ave, red line train), the office staff super friendly, nice, and caring, the doormen all super helpful and lovely. any maintenance problems are handled right away. the building is clean, well run, and cozy. i can't stress the convenience factor enough. we just renewed and i would highly recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean, convenient, and nice place to live in the gold coast. the other tenants are also really lovely, so there's certainly a neighborhood like feel to the place. the gym isn't the biggest or best, but it's good enough. also has a great pool, hot tub, and deck for the summer.

My husband and I love living in the Bernardin. It is conveniently located and safe. It has a well appointed gym and business center and an impressive sky lounge. In the winter we enjoy the inviting, roaring fire in the lobby and in the summer the pool and hot tub and outdoor grills are the best in the city. There is even a community herb garden. The staff here is professional and friendly - the doorman always brings special treats for my dog. And they frequently host parties and get-togethers so that the residents feel welcome and get to know each other. Many of us have become great friends. Living here is like living in a wonderful, albeit vertical, neighborhood. I can't imagine a better building in all of Chicago.

I lived here for several years and finally decided to ratchet up to a much larger building in Streeterville that offers truly luxurious amenities and a killer (and very spacious) fitness center. The Bernardin's fitness room was a sad joke. Very tiny, two treadmills, two horrible TV's, and one elliptical trainer, no air conditioning beyond the stupid plastic floor fans. The doormen were all moody including the main doorman. Maybe they were only working there as a sort of hobby and really didn't need the money. I was happy to leave. I saw a constant turnover in management there. The "business center" was another sad and tiny little room as well. I adored it when the pet owners would walk out the front doors and allow their yapping little rats to piss right there at the front entrance. So classy!

We have lived in the The Bernardin for a year now and absolutely love it. The staff is made up of kind, good people who are accommodating and friendly. The building is kept clean as a whistle, it's very soundproof, continual upgrades are made, the pool area is stunning and there are frequent social gatherings, during which we have made friends. Whenever I put in a maintenance request (e.g. new caulk in the tub), the staff responds the same day (sometimes within 15 minutes!) and takes care of the issue quickly and skillfully. Plus, the location of the building is exquisite -- with the CTA red line right across the street, incredible shopping and restaurants within a short walk, and the lakefront just a couple blocks away.

I leased a place at the Bernardin in the beginning of May, and everything has been to my liking thus far and the staff have been very professional and accommodating. I've looked at this building 3 times in the past 2 years and have always found myself coming back, so eventually I decided that this was the place for me! A new modern and sophisticated office with tvs, printers, computers, etc. was recently built near the building entrance with wonderful amenities, and the building is also undergoing a large scale project to build a rooftop indoor/outdoor entertainment area for its residents! A large balcony and a great outdoor pool were among the main things that I weighed in on when selecting a place, and this luxury apartment building has both - the landscaping at the pool is always known to be top notch as well. I have a few friends that have lived here throughout the years as well, and all of them highly recommended this place. The doormen, the property management and sales associates, and the maintenance staff are all wonderful!! - very important when choosing a place to live in. My condo itself is very spacious, the closet space is very adequate, and the views and location of the Bernardin itself cannot be beat. I highly recommend this building!

We moved into the Bernardin over Memorial Day weekend and have had a terrific experience so far. The move in process was easy, convenient, and well coordinated thanks to the communication and logistical efforts of the property management team. They have been and continue to be very amenable to our maintenance requests and often take care of issues within 24 hours. Additionally, the building is making a significant effort to improve its communal facilities including a new coffee lounge, workout / social space, and a rooftop deck that will be a terrific amenity. We feel very safe and secure in both the building and the parking garage and are so pleased with our choice to live here.

I have never before written a review of an apartment but looking at the last several reviews for the Bernardin has made me decide that writing a review is worth doing. My wife and I came to the Bernardin in August after our house had a major fire. To say the least, we were upset and depressed at the thought of living in an apartment when we first arrived. I can tell you that from the very first day in our apartment, we have been made to feel totally at home and very happy. The staff from everyone in the office to the gentlemen at the front desk do everything in their power to accomodate and make you happy. For anyone to say anything derogatory about the staff personally offends me and suggests that the writers are people who can not be satisfied regardless of the effort by others to please them. It is instructive that those reviews were annonymous. The apartments are spacious, pretty, comfortable and quiet -with great views. With regard to the break in in the garage, my guess is that the person who owned the car left something in the car that drew the interest of a crook. No hotel can protect someone from their lack of being street wise. To conclude, this is a first class apartment building with wonderful staff who we have come to view as friends. We will miss living here when our home is repaired. I am happy to sign my name to this review as I stand behind everything in it. I suggest those who write negative reviews sign their names in the future. Yours truly, Michael Siegel.
