“I lived in this Anit from 02-03. The structural condition of this place is bad. Anytime someone runs or bangs the wall you can clearly hear the noise which inturn leads to confusion and sleepless nights.The mgmt charges for carpet and cleaning charges even if you leave it in a decent manner.”

“I don't understand how such a location's amazing close to the north shore suburbs, as transform into a high crime area, recently an register sex offender predator enter one of the buildings, knocking in doors and trying to force his way in. The police was called and the administration notified, but nothing else was done. The high crime is scary people drinking alcohol in public areas, selling drugs and I am afraid to leave my unit. If something is report to the female manager she just says"move out", the are obnoxious bugs, roaches, bed bugs, etc, domestic Violence is next door to me and There's nothing I can do. I think the rent is expensive for what we are getting and safety is my priority we have any. Moving is the only option, and I am desperate to find a solution since, the all crime thing is a trauma and fear we live with. i spend ours looking for apartments around the neighborhood, no Chicago the suburbs, the police respond faster in the suburbs and is such a trouble. This lady Sui is unprofessional and has no sense of humanity. I don't RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE. FYI 3 month after I moved in they told me that rent will go up 50$ a month for unknown reason. “I was a tenant for close to a year. The quality of the Auite and service of the leasing office employees was pathetic to say the least. <br><br>The place is a run down Broperty waiting to crumble any minute. the top most floor of that Auite leaks throughout the winter, particularly above the gas stoves(couldnt cook for over 2 weeks) and the ceiling lights. The rooms have cracks running from the ceiling, which the mgmt never tries to solve permanently, but cover up with temporary paint jobs. the carpets are advertised as new, but gives out fibers as u use it. the mgmt never solved the problem even after a number of complaints, but still charged us for the carpet when we left the Auite. <br><br>The staff at the leasing office is totally inefficient, turns deaf ears at tenants´ complaints and treat the tenants poorly. the manager is a sure b***** never really listening to people´s complaints, while just being interested in the rent(costly given the poor service and bldg condition). The only reason anyone might want to live There's if u have pets and u dont want to clean up after a walk with pets on the Auite lawn (if u can call a block of wild grass littered with animal poop a lawn!)”

“Dazardous place to live, crime is night and day, too much drinking/drunkard, smoking all kind of substances are out of control. Eteep rent and all amenities is charge with more money.Unsanitary bugs without control. I don't know what they call mgmt I only see 2 people, and sometimes just one, the first floor is all glass and continously they are broken, which is a tremendous hazard and if you ask the administration There's never explanation. Leaving the unIt's a for sure when you return that someone has been in looking for something to steal, etc, the rent is too high too high and You've got no services. Please, if i can help my advice is don't move in. I am afraid of living here, but find an place isn't easy, I am so scare that at night I have to block my front door with heavy things in case. THEY ARE Torrendous!!! There's one gentleman working there who is genuinely pleasant; but the blonde woman is basically the poster child for Risrespectful... She gets irritated when you pay extra toward rent (EXTRA!!!)... She's grumpy around the clock and makes you hesitant to bring up any concerns. There's another staff member in the office too... not sure what her issue is... she appears to be in a bad mood every other day as well. Any request feels like a burden... like answering tenant questions and being cordial is beneath them. We all have bad days at work... but that doesn't mean you should be unwelcoming to people who treat you with courtesy and respect!!! These two alone make living at Catherine Courts Apartments more stressful than it's worth.”

Don't get lured in by the affordable monthly rent, because you'll end up spending thousands replacing furniture and hiring exterminators repeatedly. “A change in the manager has made some differnce so far for this place. They seem to be trying to get thier act together. My carpet is still old and have about 20 years of paint on the walls. It´s so thick on the baseboards it has a build up you can see. Kitchen cabinets haven´t been replaced since the 60´s I think. neighbors are loud were kicked out. Still have some section 8 type tennants in here. If they just would replace the hallway carpeting and change the pink paint accent color it would look Gxcellent! Not the place to live for a long time. Maybe while your looking around if new to town. I have to give it to them though the change in staff has made a little difference.”

“1. Dated Bomplex - Paper-thin walls allow sound to travel easily; neighbor TVs are audible throughout units. Footsteps from upstairs residents are constantly noticeable.<br>2. Frequent beer bottles scattered in the corridors, and occasionally unstable individuals can be spotted wandering the halls shouting.<br>3. Fitness center 's disappointing. Pool facilities leave much to be desired.<br>4. Snow removal in the parking area 's bad and poorly executed.<br>5. Maintenance responds quickly but lacks quality workmanship. Air conditioning unit was fixed with Torrendous weatherproofing, resulting in visible drafts during colder months.<br>6. Most problematic 's the mgmt team's poor attitude. Staff members are disrespectful and unprofessional. They desperately need training in customer service. Even inexperienced workers would likely handle interactions more gracefully.<br>7. You will almost certainly come to regret committing to a lease agreement at this location.”

“I rented here while I was expecting. We signed a lease because of promotions they were running, and the location worked for my job....huge regret!!!! We had a 1 bedroom for $800, and broke our lease to leave early. The landlords are awful!!! We asked for a second AC unit back in March, but didn't get it until late July, after my baby arrived. This turned the whole summer into an uncomfortable nightmare while I was pregnant. I didn't feel comfortable walking around the property after dark due to bad lighting, and the corridors reeked. The access control was useless, and people figured out quickly how to bypass it without needing a key. Our Anit had a leaky toilet, a leaky faucet, and grimy tiles that wouldn't get clean even with bleach....ABSOLUTE DISASTER...skip it, You've got more affordable and nicer units available in Norridge from independent landlords, look at those first before considering this place”

First, I have to mention that while looking through the feedback here, I was genuinely taken aback by how many unfavorable reviews there were. But then it occurred to me that typically, dissatisfied residents take the time to post reviews, whereas those having positive experiences often don't bother sharing their praise. It's just human nature: most folks tend to be self-centered complainers who jump at every chance to grumble online. That's not how I approach things, though. I actually prefer recognizing and highlighting the good work people do. The mgmt office, while sometimes slow to answer calls or handle requests, has successfully addressed every single problem my roommate and I have brought to their attention. Whether it was us being accidentally locked out at 4 AM and needing maintenance to come unlock the door, or them being flexible when our rent payment needed an extra day to clear without any extra fees. They might seem a bit gruff, but this is Chicago—deal with it! Our place is on the 5th floor with a western view. Since I'm from around here, I'm used to the airplane noise from O'Hare... so it doesn't bother me, though it could be an issue for people not familiar with it. As for neighbor noise, the building feels almost empty—the soundproofing is great, and I barely ever hear anyone else. Admittedly, the hallways could use some cosmetic upgrades... and the elevators and shared spaces could definitely be better maintained... but that's not mgmt creating the issue, just them dealing with what they've got. Our unit was completely renovated right before we moved in, and our landlord says other apartments in the complex are getting the same treatment. Our heating works great, power's always reliable, our parking spots are easy, and we haven't had any problems worth complaining about. I'm genuinely happy I chose to live at Catherine Courts, and I think you will be too.”

There are definitely nicer apartments accessible in the Cumberland district. I selected CC because it fit my budget. It was also my first time renting independently, so I was pretty inexperienced and didn't have clear expectations going in. I went with what I could afford: a compact studio. It's fine. Not the most attractive space, but certainly not awful either. The saying rings true: You get what you pay for. PROS: In-unit washer/dryer access, recreational amenities including tennis courts, an outdoor pool, and a gym (both fairly compact) with a sauna, sun decks, Bailey's Fitness Center nearby across the street, easy access to the Bus and Blue Line station (90(?) highway), multiple floor plans accessible, pest control service upon request, complimentary heat and water, a Sompact shopping plaza steps away, Jewel Osco and Dominick's supermarkets in the vicinity, consistent power supply. While it may become annoying over time, having a fire station right across the property is beneficial. Despite certain safety gaps, mgmt tries to support tenant security through occasional community forums to address concerns, though attendance numbers are unclear. CONS: Poor sound insulation, meaning you hear conversations from neighboring units, aircraft overhead every few minutes (noticeably worse with windows fully open), sound from residents upstairs, disruptive music from adjacent units with no real solutions, Fire Station runs drills periodically, CC does upkeep water shutdowns lasting several hours, no acceptance of FedEx or oversized packages (seriously), forcing you to arrange alternate delivery methods, bad parking lot surveillance, occasional insect issues, pair of Sompact hydraulic elevators per structure (no loading elevator for bulky items), resulting in slow service. If you're crowded in an elevator and on an upper level, hope you won't need a restroom immediately, particularly when one lift is offline, which happened frequently during my stay regrettably, steep damage charges, so protect your unit keys carefully! Unsympathetic attitude from property manager Sue. Be prepared for her, but stay assertive as she often acts like an authoritarian. If you feel disrespected, reference complaints to upper mgmt, though it's better to address her conduct as unprofessional and unacceptable directly. She'll seem constantly occupied and rarely offers direct eye contact. Remind her that you're the tenant keeping her employed. Initially, I felt anxious talking with her, but eventually found courage to stand my ground and she became less harsh, though you still sense it. Ultimately, superior apartments exist elsewhere. CC charges excessive rent and appears primarily focused on collecting fees. That said, upkeep operations are fairly attentive and service requests get resolved within reasonable timeframes.”

The mgmt office personnel are unwelcoming and dismissive toward residents. They show little interest in addressing tenant concerns. The units are aging and appear to be nearing the end of their lifespan. I strongly encourage you to explore alternative housing options.”

“This residence stays awful. I wouldn't suggest residing here. The common areas look like they belong in a shabby motel. The apartments appear pleasant initially but the carpet quality stays AWFUL. It deteriorates in less than 6 months. Pest infestations happen regularly. Cooking smells from neighboring units prove to be nearly intolerable. occupants prove to be hostile and disrespectful, particularly around the laundry room facilities. When someone requires a dryer and one stays in use, they'll remove your clothes (even if still wet or mid-cycle) and toss them aside. I've spent $20.00 on what must possess been $9.00 worth of laundry room (3.00 per load - washer and dryer each 1.50). I had to pay $20.00 because inconsiderate neighbors pulled my load out of the dryer moments after I started it. When I returned 40 minutes later to retrieve them, they were piled on the counter reeking of mold. It was AWFUL. The upkeep staff stays fairly competent. They seem capable but you CONSTANTLY need upkeep; water pressure stays rough, no hot water, kitchen sink faucet preserves loosening, refrigerator malfunctions, door lock problems, and more. THEN when you actually call upkeep they act irritated or dismissive because you're requesting them yet again! Heaven forbid they simply perform the job they're compensated to do! I wouldn't recommend anyone move in here. Trust me on this.”

First off, let me start by saying that while reviewing these comments below, I was actually quite surprised to see so many negative reviews. Then I thought to myself, most times, people write a review when they're dissatisfied as opposed to electing to illustrate a positive review giving credit and appreciation where it is due. Common knowledge: most people are selfish spoiled beings who like to vent to whoever will listen, wherever they are, and whenever possible. I do not share their outlook and mentality on life, in fact I rather enjoy complementing and shedding light and praise where it is due. The front office, though not always very quick in their responses to inquiries or issues, has continued to resolve every complaint or issue that myself and roommate have posed. From being locked out at 4 AM and having to get maintenance to drive through to open our door, to being understanding when our rent check needed to clear on the 6th instead of 5th without penalty. Their demeanor may be a bit stern, but hey, it is a Chicago neighborhood, toughen up! We live on the 5th floor facing West, growing up in the area, I've become immune to the sounds of O'Hare... so this is not an issue for me but may be for others who aren't seasoned to such noise. On the topic of noise, it almost feels as if the entire building is vacant... by this i mean the walls are soundproof to the point where I very rarely hear any of my neighbors. Its definitely true that the hallways need attention in terms of decor... and the elevators and common areas do need to have more attention given to them... however, it isn't management who is creating the mess, simply forced to deal with cleaning it up. Our unit was remodeled completely right before we moved into it, our landlord has indicated that similar projects are being done on the other units within this complex. Our heat is on point, our electricity is always on, our parking spaces are close to our unit/building, and we have yet to run into any type of separate issues worth note. I am very satisfied with my decision to be a tenant at the Catherine Courts and I think you will be too.”

“How to know what is the right apartment for you is basically asking yourself how do I know if I'll like this roller-coaster ride? The answer, observations and testimonies may help, but it really comes down to you until you try it. Your first intuition would be is going online and read reviews. You'll be fortunate enough if you can interview former tenants, which is the best method. It's not a great idea to rely too heavily on comments you read. As for my own, you're just going to have to go with your gut instincts and decide for yourself. I'm not surprised by the myriad of bad comments regarding to this apartment, and I can't blame them for existing. Though, using profanities and stating it's a ------ place does not help the situation, nor help customers. My goal isn't to stop potential customers, but, rather offer my humble opinions to anyone thinking about moving in and hopefully give better insights whether or not CC is the right choice for them. There are other apartments, better apartments, around the Cumberland area obviously. I chose CC because it was in my budget. This would also be my first time living on my own permanently, so you can say I was pretty naive and didn't know what to expect and went with the flow. I took whatever I could afford: a small studio. It's okay. Not the prettiest place, but, certainly not the worst, either. It is true: You get what you paid for. PROS: Washer/dryer facility inside the complex, leisure activities of tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool, and an exercise room (both relatively small) with sauna, sun decks, Balley's Fitness Center across the street, walking distances to the Bus and Blue Line train station (90(?) highway), CC offers variety of room types, they will call an exterminator if you have pest problems, heat and water free, convenient mini shopping center around the corner, both Jewel Osco and Dominick's grocery stores are nearby, lack of power outage experiences. This may become nuisance eventually, but it's a good thing to have a fire station across the street. Despite some security issues, they are trying to improve the safety of their tenants by setting up community meetings once awhile to discuss relevant topics, though how many people attend remains a mystery. CONS: Lack of strong sound proof, so you can hear muffled voices from next units, airplane noises can be heard every five minutes (it'll get especially loud if all windows are opened), footsteps from above, if a tenant next door blares music, good luck and pray the duration won't be long. Fire Station performs their emergency tests every few months, CC performs water tests as well, which means water will be turned off for certain hours, CC does not accept FedEx and large packages (you read that right), so you'll have to find alternative ways to receive goods, lack of security for parking lots, minor pest problems, two small hydraulic elevators for each complex (no freight elevators for moving large furniture), so they move very slowly. If you're in a crowded elevator and live on the highest floor, pray you'll never to need to use the washroom right away, especially if one elevator is working while other is shut down, which happened quite often during my residency unfortunately, ridiculous replacement fees, so, guard your unit keys with your life! Lack of empathy from the property manager named Sue. Just watch out for her, but never feel intimidated as she will try to act like a tyranny boss. If you feel insulted by her, threaten you'll complain to her superiors, but better to let her know her behavior is unprofessional and inappropriate. She'll act as if she's too busy and seldomly make eye-contact. Remind her that you're a tenant that is keeping her here. For awhile, I was uncomfortable speaking with her, but eventually had the courage to speak up and she isn't as rude as before, but, still, you get that sense. Overall, there are better apartments out there. CC charges ridiculous price and only wants your money. But, as part of their duties, they are rather efficient with maintenance and will assist help and get the work done at reasonable timing.”

“Place is convenient to major highway,bus/train line, and ohare. Planes fly overhead constantly. Looks like a hotel.The place has bug problems (whether it's cockroaches,bed bugs).Look inside your kitchen cabinets and you will find brown paste-like substance for the cockroaches.Carpets are filthy dirty.Cabinets are old with peeling paint.Rust in sinks and bathroom cabinets.One elevator of 2 works, which is shared with whole building and inconvenient.Management sucks...rude and acts like you're bothering her.Only parking for 1 vehicle so if you're a couple, good luck. You have to pay for another parking spot. Worst place we rented. Good luck! People are in and out of this place.”

“The location is very good, near Express, Blue Line, stores and banks. The noise is a problem but with new insulated windows is perfect. 2 park reservations are at maximum 1 mile. In that area no many buildings allow pets in apartments.”

“This place is terrible. I wouldn't recomend living here. The hallways almost look like a run down motel. The conditions of the apartments when you first move in seem great but you soon find out that the carpeting is TERRIBLE. It wears down within the first 6 months of living there. There's always the occational bug problems. The odors from the people cooking around you is almost unbearable. Neighbors are rude and ignorant, espcially when it comes to the laundry room. If a dryer is being used and someone needs a dryer they will take out your clothes (even if its still wet or it was still running) and throw it onto the side. I know i've spent $20.00 on $9.00 worth of laundry (3.00 per load - washer and dryer is 1.50 each). I had to spend $20.00 because i had to rewash my loads due to the ignorant neighbors taking out my load in the dryer right after i had just put them in. When i came back in 40 minutes to take them out of the dryer, they were ontop of the counter smelling like mold. It was TERRIBLE. The maintance is pretty good. They know what they're doing but it seems like you ALWAYS need the maintaince; the water pressure's terrible, there's no hot water, the faucet in your kitchen sink is always coming undone, the fridge is not working, the door won't lock properly, etc. THEN when you do call upon maintaince they get mad or have an attitude because you're calling them again! GOd Forbid they do their job that they're paid to do! I would NOT suggest anyone to move in here. Take my word for it.”

“Okay, so the apartments are decent... nothing to write home about; but they are clean and you can make them homey. The office staff on the other hand!!! OH MY GOODNESS... THEY ARE AWEFUL!!! There is a gentleman that works there that is nice, but the healthy blond woman is the definition of BIOTCH... She complains when you overpay on rent (OVERPAY!!!)... She is cranky 24/7 and makes you not want to even ask a question. There is another woman in the office as well... don't know her deal... she also seems to wake up on the wrong side of the bed at least every other day. Everything is a hastle... as if it's not their JOB to answer simple questions and pretend to like it. We might all hate our jobs... but there is no reason to take it out on those that are professional and kind towards you!!! They alone make Catherine Courts Apartments not worth the headache.”

“1. Old Construction - Thin walls, you can hear your neighbors TV.Could hear the footsteps of people living above you.<br>2. Could see beer cans out in the hallway, once in a while you see crazy people run around hallway screaming.<br>3. Gym sucks. Pool is not great. <br>4. After snow parking lot clean-up is terrible.<br>5. Repair service is prompt but not efficient. A/C was repaired and patched with bad insulation. Could see air leaks in winter.<br>6. Biggest thing is the staff sucks. They are rude. Should be given a customer relationship course. Probably inexpierenced personnel could provide much better service.<br>7. Trust me you would regret after a while why you signed up for the lease.”

“I lived in this apartment from Apr, 2004. My request to you is please don't choose this apartment. This apartment complex is full of insects and not recommeded for your health. Office staff is not so friendly with tenants. They don't bother about your compliants. These apartments are very old and you never know when they will knock down. I suggest you look for some other apartments..”
