“I own a renovated town home in this complex and just wanted to say that if you have the opportunity to sublet a condo or townhouse this is a great place to be. If you can get one of the newly remodeled units then go for it. Price may be higher but look at location and parking and you will be very satisfied. I park right in front of my house everyday on the street with no problems. They are still working on the grounds and it will only get nicer this summer.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“The location is superb, with easy parking, easy access to public transportation, and the lakefront. And beautiful Oz Park right across the street!

HOWEVER...when the longtime management team retired in late 2003, this place really went downhill fast. The new managers were rude and did not get things done. There seemed to be new and even more surly managers hired and fired every other month!!!

The buildings themselves are getting a little old, with roofing and furnace issues galore.

We are glad to be out of there. Looks like the place is being turned into condos anyway. Considering the age and condition of the buildings...I hope those condo owners are ready for HIGH maintenance costs!

A real shame this place went downhill, as the location really can't be beat...”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“I've lived here for 2 years. The buildings them selves are very quiet, however with 2 hospitals and a fire station around the corner, beware. Sirens are at all hours. The location is great and the grounds are well maintained. Parking is good. Maintenance fills requests very quickly. The office staff has a horrible attitude especially since the owners have changed. Getting a package that was delivered to the office is like pulling teeth. The 'free cable' is horrible. We had the cable company come out it was so bad. They said it was just old wiring and nothing could be done. A/C is not powerful enough for entire apartment. Overall, a decent apartment, but overpriced.”
“While a nice location, management is horrible and maintenence requests take weeks. On top of it all, they are cheap about repairs and the appliances are not all there. Cable included is a plus, but it goes off on its own. The heat is controlled by building by the management, so it is never just right and they forget to shut it off on time when it gets warm. Oh, and the air conditioner is in the living room so it is too hot in the bedrooms. The one small A/C unit in the living room is too small for the entire apartment. Oh and it took them most of the winter to repair the door to the building: first it wouldn't lock so anyone could get in without a key. Then nobody could get in after they 'fixed' it, so all tenants had to go change keys.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“I lived at this complex for 2yrs and my roommate was there 2 yrs before. One thing that sells this place is the location!! You have all the Lincoln Ave bars plus you are close enough to North Ave/Armitage shopping. And lastly, the lake is within walking/biking distance. The only thing was the rent was HIGH for such little space. We lived in a 2 bedroom. The 1st bedroom is big but the 2nd bedroom (mine), you can only fit a bed and maybe a TV stand. VERY SMALL. But, I loved the location. The security and grounds people were good. The appliances were a bit outdated and the kitchen was small. I would recommend Walpole Apartments if you are looking for a GREAT location! Oh and parking is not too bad for that area!!”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“I lived at Walpole for 4 years and liked my apartment, parking is great, the maintenance staff is WONDERFUL, Location is ideal - however the office staff is another story. They are not customer friendly.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“Great apartments in beautiful Lincoln Park, close to everything! Staff is nice and responsive to problems. Parking on Lincoln Ave is very attainable. Tenants are young and like to have fun. Only complaint is that the mail system. I´d recommend this place to anyone looking for an afforable apartment in Lincoln park.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“I have lived here about 18 months. I must say that the quality of living has definitely dropped over the past 18 months due to consistent changes in the office management. Maintenance is not as good and problems/concerns are not addressed in a complete, timely manner. In addition, I find that the office is unorganized in general. BUT, compared with other horror stories I hear about other landlords, they are still pretty decent. However, the apartments themselves are still a good deal. This is definitely a great location with great street parking (best in Lincoln Park without a doubt). You are steps the the bars, the zoo, the bus/el, etc. Also, it is a quiet neighborhood and we very rarely have any problems with noise or anything from other neighbors. With all that is included with your rent, I feel my 2 bedroom is very competitive with others I saw in the area. All in all, I would not hesitate to rent here again. If you do decide to live here I would definitely recommend the Larrabee St. portion of the property over the Lincoln Ave. side.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“I lived at Walpole with my roommate for 2 yrs. We loved living at Walpole because it was a GREAT location being near the lake, the bars and the shopping The management at Walpole is always very nice and attentive Whenever we had a maintance issue, someone was sent out immediatly In addition, believe it or not, we never had a problem with parking (and it´s Lincoln Park)!!

The only complaints are the bedrooms are small (the front bedroom in the 2 bedroom apartment) and if more than two people are in the apartment it can feel clostriphobic! The place is also getting old and we started to have a lot of maintance issue but as I said before someone did come right out

”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“I have lived here for 2 years and I: 1. feel safe; 2. am very satisfied with management 3. I highly recommend these apartments.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“I lived at Walpole, first in a townhome and then in an apartment, for a total of 5 years. I was nothing but impressed with the prompt attention to maintenance reqests and any concerns I had while living there.

The rent prices were high for the amount of square footage and age of the units, but the location(right across from Oz Park, near many bars/restuarants, and only 4 blocks from the lake) made it worthwhile.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“Once you move in the apartments are poorly maintained. I speak from multiple experiences during the same year.

On one instance the ceiling in my apartment COLLAPSED and it took over 4 weeks for the management to fix the problem. This collapse was due to poor maintenance and water leakage from the roof. This damage ruined my clothes in my closet, other valuables and a $2,000 table. Furthermore, Walpole would not pay for any of the damages to my items. I can go on with other examples, but you must check out the poor management before you rent or buy one of these maintenance nightmares.
”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“Can´t beat the price for the area. Great staff with prompt maintenace service. Only concern is lack of ventalation in apartment complexes (esp. with cooking).”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“Here we have found a very affordable 3 bedroom in the perfect location. My husband and I have two children, so we love living adjacent to Oz park and very near their school. We feel very safe here, we have found a very residential neighborhood right in the middle of the city! Best of both worlds!”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“The location of these apartments is great and the age group is primarily 20 and 30 somethings. Nice enough places, small, a bit expensive for what they are, but again the maintenance and office are very prompt and responsive. However, there are a ton of really cute places in the same neighborhood for equivalent rent that have character and charm- two things the Walpole apartments lack.”
— 2140 N Lincoln Ave · Chicago“This community consists of apartments and townhomes. I´m not sure what the latter look like inside, but the apartments are nice - small, but nice. Honestly, the units are nothing to scream about; they´re pretty average. There are so many other things that make this place so great though. Management if very friendly, concientious, and RESPONSIVE!!! I got locked in the bathroom once, and one of the maintenance guys drove out from the suburbs in the middle of his softball game on his day off to let me out! The rent is extremely reasonable, the location can´t be beat, and if you´re young and single, you´ll make a lot of friends. Single 20 and early 30 somethings seem to make up the majority of the tenants. The only reason I left is because they don´t allow dogs, and I really wanted to adopt one. Otherwise, I wouldve stayed as long as I could!”
