“Do NOT EVER EVER EVER RENT HERE. THERESA ROSE, THE PROPERTY MANAGER IS THE BIGGEST B*TCH IN THE WORLD. SHE HAS PROBELMS OF HER OWN AND TAKES THEM OUT ON EVERYONE ELSE. SHE MAKES EVERYONE MISERABLE. It's truly a shame as the apartments themselves are quite nice... but this woman, Theresa Rose.. is an absolute HORROR!”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I looked at these apartments when I lived in Houston. I wasn't that impressed. I just moved to Birmingham and am renting with http://realestate.al.com/alabama/shelby-county/birmingham/for-rent”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“The complex is okay...but management lacks in customer service. I have had numerous run ins with the wife who runs the complex, and can verify every reviewer on this site's consistant comments. Renters should take action. The management enters your home, and does not leave the required documentation outlined in the lease. This is highly illegal and unethical. She will cross the wrong renter one day and will loose her liscence. Rude rude angry little woman! Good luck getting anything done without a struggle.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I'm no longer a tenet here. Everything's nice until I have to actually talk to managment, the guys are nice but if I call the office with a problem, I get twenty questions about how I must have done something wrong to cause the problem. One time last year she stood outside of the complex and interveiwed anyone coming to visit a friend or family member, it was so humiliating. I just wish she would take some sensititvity training, or anger managment, people skills, something. She'll look in your car and tell you it's messy, so rude I can't belive it. If you like conflict move here!”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“Per the previous comment about the "wife" running the front office - If you want to be treated like you owe your apartment complex more than your rent, live here - she is HORRIBLE!!! She is overly defensive and any minor complaint turns into a brawl. She has no idea what customer service is, I can't bleieve she runs that office. It's too bad, the owners are quite nice and the property is quaint and stylish. They've done a lot to fix it up but unfortunately it won't help as long as she deals with the tennants. The parking situation is impossible, there are no dishwashers or ice machines, and any minor request will be ignored. I rent so I do not have to deal with structural issues, and here they see it as your problem. There is CONSTANT construction that goes on until 6 pm sometimes later. My car has been both towed and broken into. I had high hopes for this place - it's really a shame.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“We as residents have done all that we can to be civil with the omner/----- and all that they have done is treat us wrong, charge for things that are not our fault, not fix leaks, and everything else under the sun that a landlord should know better than to do. The units are falling apart and roaches are everywhere. Washing machines do not work and when they do they charge way to much and clothes come out of the dryer damp. DO NOT RENT HERE, YOU WILL REGRET IT. Plus, bikes get stolen regularly as well as cars getting broken into.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I've been a resident for FAR too long thanks to an ex. The owner has his wife running the office and she's VERY rude. There is also constant construction in the units, so if you are here during the day, it's very uncomfortable. It's also way over priced for what you get.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I lived in a two bedroom for a year and a half and really hated every minute of it. if it hadnt been close to everything i needed to be by i would have ran screaming. Aside from every Tom, ---- and crackhead able to walk through the once gated courtyard and the basically antisocial renters, someone once even climbed the outside of my building to get to my second story porch and steal my bike. I even got to watch while one neighbor nearly burned the complex down by lighting a huge fire on her porch to "bbq" then went inside. Bottom line?... surrounded by bars and managed by people trained to hate you from a distance, you can do better.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I really like 1920 W. Alabama Apartments. Tracy the manager is really nice and is willing to cut you a deal. It is a small community so expect to get to know the neighbors. We are an eclectic bunch. The apartments are old and full of character, and each one is different. It's great.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“Yes I was a resident at 1920 W. Alabama and intially I was very happy living there. The previous manager, Tanya was wonderful, she made you feel at home. The maintenance person, Vince was extremely professional and competent. All this was when I first moved in, the overall management that headquarters at the Fountainview location are rude and totally unprofessional. They really need to get a better crew, 1920 W Alabama was home until they changed management.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I HAVE BEEN HERE FOR ONE YEAR AND I LOVE IT. THE APARTMENTS WERE BUILT OVER 50 YEARS AGO SO THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE SOME PROBLEMS. I KNOW ALL OF MY NEIGHBORS AND THAT MAKES ME FEEL SAFE. SOME OF THE UNITS DON'T HAVE DISHWAWSHERS BUT THEY TELL YOU THAT WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING. I THINK THIS PLACE HAS SO MUCH CHARACTER AND STYLE. I DON'T WANT TO MOVE AWAY. SO TO ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO TALK SO MUCH S#$T, WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE!!!”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“for the ten years that i lived in my other apartment complex, i had always kept these in mind for the great balconys. when my old complex was sold, i considered myself lucky to get a two bedroom with an extra large balcony.

...and that was the last time i considered myself lucky.

the place looks great at night. just don't look too close. i don't particularly mind seedy, but even for me its pushing the envelope.

the pool is regularly a green colour; not found in nature. seriously, i will swim in most anything...or ALMOST anything...

my electric bill in the summer has been between 180.00 to 247.00! they swear that the A/C is in working order. not that stephanie returned my call, mind you; jose the maintenence guy and i conversed en espanol, and i believe him.

and the thing is that i don't mind spending that much money, because i REALLY like the apartment. the area is perfect, the neighbors are nice...but the real shame is that these people (three fountians) have a great complex and they are trashing it by neglect.

i can afford to live almost anywhere in houston, so when my lease is up, i am moving downtown. and thats too bad because i really like this place.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“This apartment complex is the BIGGEST piece of CRAP complex I have EVER lived in!! Put plain & simple, these people will IGNORE your maintenence requests, and i GUARANTEE you, you will have MANY of them!! the noise is UNBELIEVABLE!! I have been making complaints since MONTH ONE, and not ONE damn thing has changed!! All the air vents rattle all night long. I had a leak that lasted ONE whole month and flooded my entire kitchen & living room......it smelled like mold, our groceries were destroyed, and did they care?!?! NO!!! didn't even offer to compensate and when brought up, denied to do so. Apparently the comfort of your tenants isn't high on these peoples list of what is important!! I don't care HOW great the location is......you are better off pitching a tent at the West Alabama Ice House than signing your life away at this DUMP!! i COUNT down the days till my lease is up!!!! I wouldn't reccomend this place to my WORST enemy!!!”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I am having a terrible time with the apartment managers of this complex. I have brought up an issue regarding the air system. I have a problem with a neighbor smoking and the smoke is filtering into my apartment unit. I have complained to management about resolving the pproblem by fixing the huge hole underneath my bathroom sink that is duct taped. I have also complained that the smoke may be filtering in underneath the kitchen sink. There is in fact a hole underneath the kitchen sink but it is covered by a piece of linoleum tile.

Every night for the past 4 1/2 months I have battled with these people to fix the problem or move me. Mind you they have 6 other units available that have not been occupied for 2-3 months!! The amount of crap you have to put up with and their "I don´t give a rat´s a$%$ about your living environment" is not worth the amount of rent you pay. These people are slumlords and I can not wait to move out!!! I am paying to live in an unhealthy environment that poses a severe risk to my health and they don´t care and don´t care enough to keep my business..

i recommend that you look elsewhere for a clean and healthy apartment community. Their cheap cut out rolled air filters are a joke. If you love your health and life itself PLEASE LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“I´m a current resident at 1920 West Alabama. I hope you´ll never have to say the same thing.

The complex was great when I moved in. There were only two vacant apartments. Around January the manager was let go and the maintenance guy was put in charge. So there was nobody to complain to and nobody to enforce rules.

A few weeks ago we get a new "manager" (actually a leasing agent) whose response to any problems is "It´s not my fault. I can´t do anything." That´s probably true, but not very helpful.

This week they reassigned everybody´s parking space for no reason other than their ineptitude at keeping records. When I showed them my parking addendum with an assigned space they didn´t care. I had to keep the new crappy parking spot that is in an area of the parking lot that floods anytime it rains. One guy who used to park there had damage to his vehicle because of it. And we´re not talking Allison rain. Just ordinary everyday Houston rain. (As a side note -- the walkways all flood too when it rains.)

Maintenance is quick to respond, but often takes several tries before they get it right.

Again, I LOVED this complex for the first 6 months I lived there, then it started going to pieces and the management is not helpful in resolving the situation. In fact they´re rude.

Oh... they have a lot of empty units in this 53 unit complex. There´s a reason. Actually several.

No dishwashers
4 washing machines (new) but in outside hallways
No onsite management who can do anything except apologize.
Parking is a nightmare (hope you only have one car -- you get one space and one sticker. you have to park the other one somewhere in the neighborhood. but don´t park near the icehouse across the street ´cuz they´ll tow you.)
Flooding when it rains.

Hmmm... keep looking for an apartment.”
— 1920 W Alabama St · Houston“Im currently a resident at 1920 West Alabama Apartments.

Im renting a single bed / bath downstairs apartment for $595 a month. Water is paid for by the apartment company.

The manager has not been in the office for several weeks, it´s like they are never here.

They made us put parking stickers on the outside glass on our vehicles, but the stickers that they gave us were so poorly constructed that they fall off or rot away after a few months. I remedied this by just taping the sticker to the inside of my vehicle with the logo/info facing outside. The crazy landlord goes nuts about all of us not having parking stickers too.. and it´s like.. "Ok you crazy @!#@, try giving us parking stickers that aren´t exposed to rain and crap every @#!@$$ day.."

The noise level of the apartment is a joke, you can hear people talking, screwing, breathing, in the next apartment over.. And no it´s not like I have some super-sonic hearing either.. The walls are super thin. The ceiling is a joke. The whole roof shakes when someone upstairs moves. It sounds like thunder when someone upstairs opens their sliding door. The piples creak and pop when anyone in the apartment block uses the shower.. *POP* *CREAK* *POP* *POP* *PLONK* *CREAK*......

When I first moved in, the apartments did not have a dumpster.. so we had to take our trash, and throw it over the fence into an adjacent apartment complex´s dumpster. They fixed that now.. We actually have a dumpster that we can call our very own, im sure that they´re proud.

Water pressure is great here. They don´t seem to limit the amount of water per second that comes out the shower-head.

There are no security gates here, and no security at all. It´s not too much of a problem because the neighborhood is pretty nice. I had a pair of shorts stolen from my front porch as they were drying because I used them in the swimming pool. Another resident had a mountain bicycle stolen from his front porch that he had locked up. The burglar took a pair of chain cutters and removed the chain.

Despite all of these problems 1920 West Alabama is an "OK" place to live, mainly because the size of the apartment, design and price are very good. I myself am moving out soon though.”
