Co-Op city is a great place to live. My family has lived here for over 25 years and I have never had a problem other than some maintenance issues with my apartment which were taken care of in sufficient time. I take the express bus everyday and it is a joy not to have to ride the bus and then the subway. Cost more but worth it. The hallways & laundry rooms are clean. I have never had a security problem. I live on Baychester which is one of the better areas. Co-op gets a bad rap but there is no community in NY that does not have some type of crime.

I moved to Co-op City with my parents in 1970, original co-operators. Although Co-op City was still in the process of adding sidewalks, stores, etc., it was a beautiful place to live! I never felt afraid, the maintainance fee was quite a bargain. Now, in 2011 I'm very dissapointed in Co-op City. I still live in our original apartment by myself. Father moved to different apartment after my mom's death and his subsequent remarriage. I'm sorry to say that the quality of people moving in has declined considerably! I often wonder how they are able to afford to live here because the "rent" is not the bargain it used to be. We have had increase after increase after increase in just a few years! Before anybody calls me a racist, I must tell you that I'm an African American woman. I'm fed up with the "scary" looking people I see around here. Fed up with hearing gunshots and seeing people hanging around as though they have nothing better to do. Where are the parents of these kids that I see congregating in groups, doing nothing? This is not the way a so-called middle income neighborhood should be. There's no excuse for this! If it wasn't for the beautiful view I have at my location, I would probably have moved by now. The people of Co-op City had better wake up! With the right management this could still be a wonderful place to live.

A complex that was built over 30 years ago, with major renovations having been made and continue to be made, for a reasonable price to buy your share in the corporation. Having been a resident for more that 12 years, I have found Co-op City a great place to live. Prior to living here, I owned a Condominium in Cobble Hill the was valued at $250,000 when I sold it. The layout of the 3 bedroom apartment here is better than the condo in Brooklyn. Parking for a monthly fee of less than $65.00 a month is unheard of. The top Maintenance Fee is less than $1,200 a month including your gas and electric. Co-op city having its own public safety department is better than the city police department in responding to an emergency. There are many people here who seem to think that everything should be for nothing but the increases have been low. The person who gave the first review did not know Co-op City.
