“Pros: Nice neighborhood in general. Building is usually quiet. Cons: Broken mailboxes. Broken front doors. Terrible roach problem when we first moved in. Bathroom sink clogged. Leaky kitchen pipes. You have to chase down the property mgmt for months for them to fix anything if they ever do.”
— 392 EAST 4 STREET · Brooklyn“Unit 6B Pros: The location is great, very near a reliable F/G stop, and walkable to Ditmas and Flatbush Cons: Since the building changed ownership a few years back there was a lot of super turnover and for awhile we had none. There is one now, but the management company is still very unreachable. No repairs and upkeep.”
— 392 EAST 4 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Great location, newly renovated with washer and dryer. Cons: They never fixed my broken doorbell the whole 2 years I lived there. In general they are unresponsive unless it is a true emergency. It also took a lot of effort to get my security deposit back.”
— 185 4 AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Quiet building, and neighborhood (mostly families). Cons: Roaches - that was a constant struggle and that was the main reason why I decided to move out. Advice to landlord: You cannot just try to renovate apartments and try to cover the problem, some of those units need immediate attention”
“Unit 5 Pros: Love the neighborhood and neighbors. Cons: Mice and roaches, no response when brought to their attention, rent too high”
— 392 EAST 4 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: It's a wonderful location Cons: Roaches, a lot of them. Have had maintenance requests go unanswered for 6 months. Takes weeks to track down the super. Neighbors lost their cold water over the holidays. Advice to landlord: A faceless corporation”
— 168 5 AVENUE · Brooklyn“Unit 8 Pros: - landlord is pretty responsive (typically gets back to me and fixes things within 24 hours - my unit is rent stabilized so I’m inclined to live here a while - location is really great Cons: - neighbors leave trash in the hallways. if they would just take it outside in the bins, we would have much less pests inside the building - heat went out last winter but once they replaced the boiler it works again Advice to landlord: Figure out the trash problem please!”
— 163 LINDEN BOULEVARD · Brooklyn“Pros: Wonderful space and location. Lots of closet space. Exterminator on call. Cons: Rodents and bugs. New managent is incredibly unresponsive for fixing large problems. Cracks in windows, broken sashes, broken bathroom vanities, holes in floors. Incredibly overpriced for the area, service and the quality of the apartments. The managent has pushed out so many people that have lived here for years due to massive rent hikes. Also neighbors take weeks to pick up their packages from the lobby. Advice to landlord: Bring back the live-in super and replace all windows in the building.”
— 168 5 AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: I like my neighbors Cons: Can’t get anything fixed Advice to landlord: None they never respond unless it’s about rent”
— 185 4 AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Friendly neighbors, quiet building Cons: Roach infestations, mice, unresponsive management/landlord/super, water damage that went untreated, could only pay rent via mail, never ever saw an exterminator on the premises even though 1.5+ inch cockroaches were all over the lobby. Advice to landlord: Be better”
— 392 EAST 4 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: Location, relatively quiet. Cons: Building is old, dirty. Rat coming out of tenant’s trash bag left in lobby. Welcomed by roaches, water bugs and a mouse (I hope it wasn’t a baby rat based on the lobby rat) in the apt. Building hasn’t been cleaned (swept, mopped) in a long time. Population of building doesn’t seem bothered by the lack of cleaning or the pests. Exterminator is available but based on them not using him on the apt I’m in before I got here how good is he? So I’m constantly battling them, have a cat can’t use exterminator. Every time an apt is emptied on same floor they’re on the move again. Huge gaps under apt front doors allows easy pest access, as do all the cracks and gaps left unchecked. I’m constantly spraying. The trash system outside is ineffective due to number of tenants - it attracts rats. As does the vegetation outside - it’s nice in the daytime but at night I avoid taking trash out since I heard rustling in it. Old buildings need to be given special care to keep them pest resistant - this hasn’t happened here. Without the pests I’d be okay in a basic, not sexy, walkup, without the standard appliances but that’s not the case. If I knew then what I know now. Advice to landlord: None - they’re aware of the conditions (last super left building to go work for their management co.) doubt they care. If/when the majority of the building demographic changes, the building will likely be renovated. Or like other gentrified spaces, renovated apt. by apt. as needed.”
— 392 EAST 4 STREET · Brooklyn“Pros: What I like about this house is that it actually has a very good front door with the gate which makes you feel very secure when you enter your home since we have some undesirable people in the neighborhood lately Cons: Things I don’t like about this building is that you had to pay your own heat and hot water also the building it’s self is infested with mice Advice to landlord: There should be a person responsible for cleaning the front of the building since there’s always garbage on the sidewalk and the restaurant in the property it’s not keeping up with their responsibility to clean the front on the sidewalk on daily basis”
