“Unit 3C Pros: Timely maintenance and daily grounds workers. Cons: The apartment stopped doing regular pest control about two years ago, leaving it up to individual apartments to call in and schedule spraying. The building definitely has a roach infestation now and I have to fight to keep them under control. This is my only reason for moving. Advice to landlord: Go back to management handling pest control and don’t leave it up to the tenants. This is ridiculous.”
— 20-44 CRESCENT STREET · Queens“Pros: responsiveness / garbage management / Cons: too expensive / apartment is narrow / small bedroom is really small”
— 20-53 18 STREET · Queens“Unit 3C Pros: Decent sized 2 bedroom apartment. Has enough kitchen space and dishwasher. Cons: Unfortunately, neighbors have been stealing packages. There is no mail room so things just get left. There’s also no enforcement for neighbors to stay on top of requesting pest control to come to the building. As a result, there have been some issues with roaches.”
— 20-44 CRESCENT STREET · Queens“Pros: Proximity to park Cons: Thin walls and floors, old and outdated building leading to maintenance issues”
“Pros: The grounds are kept clean and the neighborhood is nice and quiet. Garbage is well managed and the apartments are nice. Tons of closet space, lots of windows with natural light and hardwood floors! The application process was so easy with the Open Igloo app. They were so helpful. Cons: Common areas/stairs could use a little love and extra cleaning but are ok.”
— 20-64 CRESCENT STREET · Queens“Unit 2A Pros: Rent stabilized, garbage handling, maintenance response though effectiveness is hit or miss as we still have a stove that produces carbon monoxide and the repair from the roof leak in the bathroom was a shoddy patch job. Cons: We've dealt with the bugs and gotten them under control, may have been the tenants before us. Our biggest complaint comes from the people above us and how management has addressed the situation. The people above us have built bookcases above our bedroom at 2am (we know because we asked them and they didn't stop when asked or when 311 was called). They've had parties until 4am, flooded our bathroom which luckily we were home when they did or that would have been a disaster, and are overall loud and rude through the day and night with no regard for the people living below them. Reached out to management who instructed us first to write a letter like it's 1995 with specific date time and so on. Luckily we recorded the incidents on video so we sent the letter with the info. Unfortunately we never heard anything back. Tried to follow up with them, and got sent around to multiple people, leaving voicemails and having our info "taken down and sent to the right people" but still nothing. Then we decided to try and transfer to a different unit as it was clear that the neighbors didn't care and neither did management but we're not in a good position to move again only a year after being here so maybe a top floor version of the same unit would help for now. We were sent around to a bunch of people again and finally got in contact with someone who showed us a few units and said it was no problem. At the last minute when we were ready to pull the trigger we were told to email management this time about the issues (first time having an email to contact anyone) so we did and we waited. Nothing. Followed up again and we were told that they already mailed the neighbors a letter in reference to what we reported. Well how in the hell are we supposed to know that? We were never told that up until now and at this point we are mentally exhausted and over the whole thing. Since there are other units available (plenty available mind you, hmm) we would like to transfer. Doesn't seem like that is a big deal, plus it's MORE expensive than our current unit so they would get even more money out of us and we'll be out of your hair. Now that's no longer an option. And we were basically blamed for the situation and told we needed to sit here and record every noise we heard with specific times for them to I guess send them another letter by carrier pigeon. Btw, I already provided a link in the email to two recordings of two separate issues with date time and 311 reference number. You'd think that would be enough. Plus, the email had the office manager and three other people on it, none of whom responded at all to any of the back and forth. When someone tells you who they are, Believe THEM. So we're not staying here. After only a year, it's so bad we're ending our lease even though we don't have the money or time to find another place. I would highly suggest if you are thinking of moving here to reconsider. Oh and the pictures in the photos are not the unit that's available or at least it wasn't in our case. Always the same set of pictures posted I noticed which should be very clear in the listing and I often question the legality of that practice. We were told after we had already scheduled the viewing and before we saw the unit (already was a red flag early on), so, set your expectations accordingly. 2/10 wouldn't recommend. Advice to landlord: Listen to your tenants instead of blaming them and post photos of the actual unit that's available.”
— 24-05 21 AVENUE · Queens“Pros: I like that during the winter it's warm Cons: Stairways are to narrow and stink”
— 20-25 CRESCENT STREET · Queens“Pros: Location is great - easy to get to a bus or subway (N/W) Management responds to maintenance requests quickly Cons: Neighbors are noisy, building doors slam super easily Laundry room is far away Apartment is small Advice to landlord: Address noise complaints and constant slamming doors”
— 20-53 18 STREET · Queens“Pros: Regularly cleaned stairways and outdoor areas. Lots of trees and plants around. Generally not too loud in the area. Pets allowed. Cons: Can be loud on landscaping days if working from home. Management company and maintenance are not easy to get in touch, and have been generally unresponsive unless tenant is insistent and persistent. Parking is expensive or difficult. Advice to landlord: It would be helpful to have more direct and efficient communication lines between tenants and maintenance.”
— 20-64 CRESCENT STREET · Queens“Unit 1B Pros: Maintenance comes fairly fast, nice area, nice neighbors! Cons: No laundry room available. Advice to landlord: Get laundry for all buildings and offer parking spots yearly to all tenants”
— 20-24 CRESCENT STREET · Queens“Pros: Management is dutiful with garbage management. The entire apt was renovated with new appliances and finishing before I moved in. Cons: Maintenance and management take a while to get back to you. Or don’t give a heads up and you may not be there when they do come.”
— 20-75 27 STREET · Queens“Pros: - The location is near astoria park and is beautiful. Cons: This building is awful and has gone downhill since Central Astoria was bought out by Revona. I used to live in the same complex a few blocks away a few years ago and it was incredible — maintenance was fantastic, no pests, and responsive management. Now? There have been roaches for a YEAR. 311 has been called. Management ignored for months and sent an exterminator multiple times who lightly sprayed. They refuse to address the building issue and will give you the runaround. I wasn’t able to get someone out to the property for months, and then they told me that they wouldn’t pay for a real extermination because theirs was enough (it wasn’t). The building itself is infested, and roaches were crawling UP THE WALLS which indicates deep infestation. Save your time money and sanity. Advice to landlord: Listen to your tenants and actually address issues.”
— 20-24 CRESCENT STREET · Queens“Pros: This is an amazing complex, I loved living here. Super close to Astoria Park and the water, as well as the subway. I moved because I wanted a dishwasher and nothing fitting my criteria was open at the time I moved, otherwise I would’ve stayed. Cons: Building was great. There are multiple rental agencies that work through here, and my broker sucked — but I had to deal with her for less than 2 weeks, so it was more than worth it.”
— 20-75 27 STREET · Queens“Pros: Since new mgmt took over the place has gone down the tubes. Cons: New Revona mgmt nonresponsive. Can't get through on the phone for maintenance. Put on permanent hold. Dirty buildings aren't maintained. Sub par repairs made if any at all. Impossible to get a hold of anybody. Advice to landlord: ANSWER THE PHONE”
— 19-09 21 AVENUE · Queens“Pros: Location is great and close to the Subway Cons: Just moved in and have seen two mice already!! Called the maintenance dept and they came and gave me glue traps. Advice to landlord: Fix your rodent issue or don’t rent these apartments.”
