“Pros: Layouts are spacious. Neighbors are kind Cons: Sneakily still trying to collect brokers fee from new tenants. Sometimes slow to do common area repairs.”
— 590 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Pros The only positive is the location it’s close to public transportation and shops. Cons: The building has roaches and mice. Appliances are old and barely work. Management is greedy, unresponsive, and more focused on raising rent than fixing serious issue Advice to landlord: Advice to the property owner Invest in proper pest control, update the appliances, and start treating tenants with respect. Ignoring basic living conditions while constantly increasing rent is unacceptable.”
— 580 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Responsive management--generally gets back to me within a day or two, and rooms are much larger than the city standard. Cons: Maybe a facet of this being an older building, but there are constant issues in need of repair, such as broken pipes, floorboards cracking within a couple months, and so on.”
— 590 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Cheap price, huge units. Cons: Building stinks. Garbage and animal feces frequently in hallway”
“Pros: Great spacious apartments Cons: Trash management is often a problem—there are rats and other pests in the basement. Packages get stolen. Advice to landlord: Give the maintenance staff more resources.”
— 580 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: The building is in a great area and the apartments are huge. Cons: One of the major draws for me (as a single woman moving out on her own for the first time) was security, however security really doesn’t secure anything. They will buzz anyone in and don’t really do anything other than walk throughs. Security use to keep everyone packages which was great, but for some reason management ended that and since there has been constant package theft and management wouldn’t do anything about it. At various points my apartment was invested with mouse or roaches and it really is a constant rotation of trading one infestation for another Advice to landlord: Clean better and make an actual package room”
— 590 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Its fully staffed and response to problems is usually quite quick. Good sense of community in the building. Apts are large and bright, many w balconies. Close to many trains, 24hrs stores, restaurants and Prospect Park. Cons: Security used to take packages but now the mail room is dumping zone. Series of apt lockers included would affordably solve a big issue. Recycling and garbage needs a reboot. In house exterminator is a joke. There are a lot of renovated apts and a lot that are not. The combo leads to roaches. Have never seen rodents in over 10 years though. Advice to landlord: Build more bike racks in behind security booth. They’re here to stay, may as well go with it. Build lockers for packages that come w apts just like a giant mailbox. There was some dumb 3rd party system that never got used.”
— 590 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Security, spacious, courtyard Cons: Stairwells are always dirty, no bike rack access, poor responsiveness from management Advice to landlord: Maintain stairwells/elevators, provide bike storage”
— 590 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Spacious apts Close to park Some apts have beautiful views Cons: Management / maintenance is abysmal. Far and away the worst I’ve experienced at any apt I’ve lived at in NY. You will wait months for service requests, and when issues are addressed, they are done so as cheaply and quickly as possible. Often you have to call them back three or four times to fix the same thing, before you end up doing it yourself. Heat and water issues are pretty much constant. Roaches as well. The frustrating thing is that with even a minimal degree of wanting to provide a nice place to live for its tenants, it could be a really pleasant place. Unless it gets new ownership / management, however, it should be a hard pass for any prospective renters. You should consider paying significantly more elsewhere for a similar apartment with different management. Advice to landlord: Hire more facilities staff Clean up laundry rooms Stop using only the very cheapest materials for everything Train maintenance staff to fix things”
— 580 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Huge apartments- many are renovated and most have large balconies, good community, affordable, close to Prospect Park Cons: People regularly smoke in their apartments and in the hallways, so the hallways always smell strongly of cigarettes and the stench even permeates into our apartment. People are loud in the common areas. Packages are stolen on a regular basis, despite the cameras and complaints to local PD. The "security" is not actually properly equipped or staffed to handle these situations. The front gates are always open, or people are freely buzzed in, so anyone is able to enter the buildings. Stairwells and trashrooms are filthy. Roaches are an issue, especially in the winter. Management does not regularly turn on heat during the winter- we have to email them on almost a daily basis asking them to turn it on. And despite all these issues, management could not care less. The tenants have formed a group and regularly bring up these issues in formal meetings and file complaints to both 311 and through the office, and nothing is done about it. Management cuts costs at all costs, and to the detriment of the tenants. It's clear they only care about one thing- saving money. Advice to landlord: Listen to your tenants!”
— 590 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: Large space and light Cons: Train noise is unbelievably loud. The neighbors smoke and several times I had to sleep on the couch to get away from the smell. The roaches were unbelievably gross. They would be dead or alive and hanging out in the common areas. Kids were smoking and eating and trashing the stair wells. Security was crap and packages were stolen left and right. Advice to landlord: Unbelievably incompetent staff. I could not leave fast enough.”
— 590 FLATBUSH AVENUE · Brooklyn“Pros: It’s pretty clean. Landlords leave you alone. Pet friendly. Easy to get maintenance in to fix. It’s also gated. Cons: It’s old and the hallways are ugly. The mail room used to be an annoying mess but it’s way better now. Advice to landlord: Gotta get a better exterminator in house. We had to call an outside company they did a great job and we have no problems now but I wish the guy in building worked.”
