“Pros: Management is good, but there's a lot of issues due to an old pre-war building (mice, loud, cockroaches) Cons: We lost heat a few times”
— 339 EAST 10 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Reasonably priced. Pretty quiet. Incredible location. Cons: Biggest issue was management always cheaping out on fixes. We had a leaky roof for two years and managment's solution was to just paint over the leak which fixed it for a month until another big rainstorm caused a leak again. Same thing happened with some plumbing fixes”
— 343 EAST 10 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 5W Pros: - Great location - Nice unit space - So much natural light - Big bathroom - Super is amazing and quick Cons: - No vent in kitchen (whole apt smells when cooking) - Stairs… so many stairs - Narrow hallway: hard to move in furniture - Small-ish unit (standard for East Village unfortunately) Advice to landlord: Vent needed in kitchen.”
— 174 AVENUE B · Manhattan“Pros: Location, layout, and monthly rent was low (5 years ago). Cons: Building management was responsive but often neglectful. Working with the Super and the management agency often resulted in the gaslighting me about the issues. There repair personal are often drunk and do a poor job and do not resolve issues, only put a bandaid. There was a hole in the roof I could never get them to repair and it wasn’t even big. The neighborhood also took a dive during the pandemic and many neighborhood staples were lost. The city also destroyed the only recreational park for 10 years on the Eastern side of Manhattan.”
“Unit 3W Pros: - Location - No serious issues in the building - Friendly neighbors Cons: - Tiny bathroom with weird smelling water and bad water pressure - Pipes would get so hot in the winter you have to open the windows so you don’t boil to death (insulating the pipes helped) Advice to landlord: N/A”
— 335 EAST 10 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Everything about this building is great. The super and maintenance staff are so friendly, and it feels really safe with security cameras and double doors. I was a little hesistant moving to this area because I heard about all the crime, but the street is well-lit and populated and the other tenants are so nice. It’s a really comfortable environment and everyone is respectful of each other. I really have to applaud management for keeping an old building in mint condition. Laundry is around the block and it’s super close to Trader Joe’s and Target — and the L and 6 trains! Cons: It’s an old building but rich with history. We’ve had an occasional mouse issue on the fifth floor - they dig through the brick wall - but the super wiped it out right away by chaulking the holes and setting traps/poison. It’s close to Blind Barber so the front bedroom can be loud on weekends, I just turn on a fan to drown out any bass. Other than that, the street is pretty quiet! Advice to landlord: Keep Ray around— he’s an awesome super that addresses any issues immediately, and some before they start!”
— 335 EAST 10 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Well kept building, only 2 units per floor Cons: Buzzer broken sometimes. Low flush pressure. Advice to landlord: None at this time.”
— 170 AVENUE B · Manhattan“Pros: No live-in super/landlord, but he’s in the neighborhood. Not a ton of people, 5 floors with 2 apts per floor. Big living rooms. Amazing location. Bedrooms are on opposite sides, not next to each other. Solid kitchen. Mostly respectful neighbors. Not a loud college building Cons: Limited windows, only street-facing windows are in the bigger of the 2 rooms. No windows in living room. Odd shape, small small bathroom. But you make it work I guess. NO LAUNDRY! Oh well. Landlord is classíc, sorta unresponsive but will send ppl over eventually if you have a real problem and press him. Advice to landlord: Clean your shower, get on the super’s good side. If the old lady still lives on floor 5, ignore her. Don’t be too loud, there were babies below us, and a couple that would freak above us.”
— 335 EAST 10 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Spacious, clean, super very helpful. No issues with bugs or mice. Cons: No laundry in building Advice to landlord: Add laundry”
