“The building is beautiful, staff is helpful, management company is responsive; but the area is AWFUL! The NOISE, NOISE, NOISE from 42nd street!!! SIRENS BLARING throughout the night and early morning; Cars blowing their horns throughout the night and early morning. I can't get any sleep. The windows are allegedly double and triple paned, but the noise is still unbearable - and is WORSE THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT AND INTO THE EARLY MORNING!! Further, despite a strong police presence (especially during rush hour) the area is NOT SAFE! There are homeless people sleeping on the street, drunks, drug addicts, gangs throughout the immediate area. Walking to work one morning, I passed by somebody yelling "heroin for sale, get your heroin here." I don't feel safe walking alone after dark. It's sad because it really is a beautiful building and conveniently located.”

So I have to use earplugs every night. This is not the worst part. The worst is that I'm trying to move out recently and received email from them asking me to pay for the "damages" and the amount they charge is definitely unreasonable and ridiculous. Such a scam for money. Avoid this place if you can. If not, trying to take pictures of every single place of the room when you move in. That way you can at least prove you are not the one making those "damages".”

However, I get a email after a month saying that I need to pay for damages that were not written on move out inspection form. They emailed me a move out inspection form, the one I signed earlier. Except, they edited it, saying that there are damages to the apartment. -------- scam for money. I'm making sure that they don't get any more rentals from any of my friends checking out MIMA. ---- place.”
“This is one building you want to avoid. It looks nice and seems nice but it is a rip off. They tout all the bells and whistles but when it comes right down to it, luggage carts are never in the garage, door people never help at the door, it's always after you have entered that they say sorry....The parking is horrific. Good luck getting into the garage if you are arriving between 3 and 7 you will fight with everyone going into Lincoln Tunnel!!! Look North of here and South to avoid the craziness of Times Square!!!! Oh and the planters in front of the building are a sad excuse for "landscaping" Looks like the garbage dump for other buildings!!!”
— 450 W 42ND ST · Manhattan“We have lived at the MiMA for the past two years and it has been a wonderful experience. The staff here are very helpful and the amenities are possibly the best in the city. I am shocked to see the first reviewer writing about sex activities happening in the sauna/steam room. I use the pool frequently with my daughter and we have never come across those scenes. That would be haunting! In-fact I have seen someone always there helping with towels etc. I have rented in many high rise luxury buildings previously and have seen some horrific management. A for MiMA as they are on top of their game and are very nice. I always avoid the Times Square area since my work is in Chelsea. I bus it or take a cab, so for me this is a wonderful building to live in. My husband loves the basketball court too. As for the international students, they have all been very quiet and seem to keep to themselves. They are much more mannered than your average student. People should learn from them if anything. And, my apartment is virtually silent...no noise from the outside. This is a near miracle when living in the city. I know this is a glowing review but it is an honest review and I could go on and on about how great of an experience this has been. Anyone looking to rent here would surely love it!”

I was at first skeptical about moving into the busy midtown area, but the building is in a great neighborhood with fantastic restaurants and shops. The inside of my apartment is beautiful and the views are the best I've ever seen. The building management was super helpful in helping me get settled. They even helped me coordinate with the movers and cable company. The building is full of amenities that I've never experienced in an apartment before. We have an Equinox gym and a MAC/coffee bar. Both helped me adjust to living in a city apartment and made my living space seem ten times bigger. I'm really looking forward to the summer rooftop movies. My neighbors have told me they are an awesome way to spend summer weekend nights.”
— 450 W 42ND ST · Manhattan“This building had so much promise at first, unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. From the minute we moved into the building to the minute we moved out (cutting our lease short), we experienced issues with MiMA collecting the right rent amount, taking money when they had money on account, failing to address legitimate complaints about pot smoking, noisy neighbors and the final straw was the vandalism of my apartment door and the Customer Service Manager of the building shouting me down at my own door. Basically with MiMA, you are renting a box with an awesome view. The finishes are nothing special to write home about and the walls are so poorly insulated that you can clearly hear your neighbors. If that was not enough, we lived high up in the building and the noise 24/7 from outside was horrific. Jack hammers at 3am, traffic noise was constant! The amenities are nice but you'll be sure to find residents and their guests having sex in the steam room/sauna and the management don't care. If you are looking to rent here, be prepared to move into a 63 story frat house. The building mainly comprises working professionals that have subdivided apartments so that a one bed becomes two, two becomes three and so on. There is also an unusually high number of international student residents.”
