“Pros: Laundry in the building, great. The building super is very nice and responsive. When we decided to break our lease early, the building management company was willing to let us out without penalty if we found replacement tenants. We ended up staying for the entire duration of the lease, but appreciated that this option was on the table after I asked the management company if this was possible. The neighbors are friendly if you say hi when you see them regularly and get to know them. Cons: There are old apartments and new apartments in this old building, so roaches can be an issue if you aren't clean. This is only a problem if you don't take out trash regularly, so this wasn't an issue for us. Also, lots of rats in the outdoor trash cans.”
— 534 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: The building is located near several convenient places (trains, bodega, CVS, super markets, riverbank park) Cons: Exterminator does not come monthly as promised, virtual doorman breaks down half the time, management is not very responsive Advice to landlord: Stay true to your promises”
— 534 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Distance to ABCD and 1 trains. Cons: Roaches, mice, flies, drug dealers, packages stolen, bed bugs. Advice to landlord: Get better.”
— 526 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Unit 42 Pros: The rent price is really good Cons: It can get pretty sketchy during night times”
— 526 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Minimally loud to quiet block Laundry room Cons: No elevator Heating sucks in the winter Hot water is sometimes not available on cold winter mornings They turn off the intercom at night so you hear banging on the building door starting 1am Advice to landlord: BE BETTER!!! PEOPLE LIVE HERE NOT ANIMALS AND THE CONDITIONS IN SOME OF THESE APARTMENTS IS ATROCIOUS”
— 534 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Multiple train lines within a few minute walk, good food in the area, close to multiple grocery stores Cons: People threw trash at bottom of the stairwell, no where to leave packages”
— 522 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Nothing really honestly Cons: The building itself is dirty, the downstairs neighbors especially treat the lobby as if it’s a part of their apartment. They smoke inside, litter, even do hair. They also steal packages and the building doesn’t do anything about it. The area is awful as well and is filled with a bunch of unemployed lowlifes in their 30s who day in and day out do nothing but smoke on their building steps. There’s also garbage everywhere. The apartment is “renovated” meaning they painted the walls white and got new Appliances, not a genuine renovation. The apartment/building is also infested with probably any bug you can think of, especially roaches. Walls are thin, doors to the apartment have cracks on the side so you can hear everything going on in the building and bugs can crawl right in. The building and apartments also have a permanent stench in them that does not go away, and if you open a window you get a stench of garbage to replace it. The company is also pretty shady and lied about having a laundry room and also didn’t even give me an official lease. Also put my rent as a few hundred bucks more on the portal and have never fixed it even though I’ve asked multiple times. Just don’t live here, I do not support gentrification, but a community like this that speaks out against their neighborhood being gentrified yet treating it like garbage, not getting any real jobs, just pushing drugs into the community is disgusting to witness. Don’t move here. They really put on a front when moving here cause it did not seem like this, but take my warning so you don’t make the same mistake I did. Advice to landlord: take care of your buildings”
— 526 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Moderately priced apartment Cons: Shamco is always out to get you Advice to landlord: Be kinder during the pandemic”
— 534 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: can’t name any Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! before we moved in we were told that we would get $300 in laundry credits for when they finish building the laundry room downstairs of our apartment. we never got those credits and never got the laundry room. there IS a laundry room though..in another building that they expect us to share with tenants of OUR building and tenants of the other one too. we weren’t aware of the awful neighbors and guests they did a good job of hiding it too when we went to view the apartment. the downstairs neighbors of the first floor are absolutely atrocious and disgusting. they blast music with their front door open every single day all hours of the night. they smoke the entire lobby up and even have parties then leave the garbage of the plastic cups and paper plates all over the floors. their kids scream and run around constantly like it’s a playground and leave sticky juice stains all over the floors. the downstairs neighbors also death glare anyone who comes into the building and act as if they own it because their grandparents have been there for years. they even put chairs in the lobby and do each other’s hair and drink and smoke as if it’s a lounge. the sign clearly says no drinking smoking etc and they do ALL of that. THEY ALSO STEAL PACKAGES. but the security cameras don’t even work in the building so they never get caught. aside from the neighbors let’s get into my apartment itself. the walls are insanely thin, i can basically hear my roommates breathe. there were constant roaches that came in so we had to buy caulk and seal every gap up ourselves. there was a giant hole left hidden to the left of the bathroom sink near the pipes so every time it rained we got a huge water bug without fail, so we had to seal that up too. our upstairs neighbor constantly has a broken shower so our bathroom ceiling has caved in and we had water burst everywhere and flood the bathroom twice already. and don’t get me started on the management. i’ve been here 7 months already and still haven’t talked to or even met the landlord?!!! they never reply to any calls or concerns. they’re also charging us rhino deposits for more months than they said they would so we’re being overcharged. i can’t wait to get out of here!!!!!!! end of lease update: the management scammed and charged us money for “staying past our lease end date” even though we moved out of the apartment a month before it ended. stay away from shamco management at all costs Advice to landlord: do your job?!”

— 526 WEST 147 STREET · Manhattan“Pros: Close to public transportation.
