Well...it first started off we had an appointment to look at apartments in October 2008 and they were helpful in meeting with us twice then a couple monthes later in December an Aad to our liking was available. We then placed a deposit down, signed paper and were waiting to move in February 22nd. We were counting on this wonderful Aad. One month later in January 2009 we received information that the current tenants "wanted to stay" till July 2009 so we could not have the Aad as the current tenants " have the right to do this". We were promised an Aad for the same price via e-mail, but, that wasn't "promised" upon a follow-up conversation. The staff stated they were looking daily for another Aad to meet our needs. The staff stated that the apartments come and go so quickly. Meanwhile, we were anxiously waiting for a call or an e-mail of update, but, the "daily" follow-up as they stated wasn't done in our eyes with more frustration. Two weeks later, now middle of February, we received information that another similar Aad to our liking is available and "will be placed on hold" until further notice. About a week later we received information that the same Aad That's on hold had been rented that same day. We were counting on the trust and accountability from the staff at PLB when they stated "we will do this for you". We then contacted another staff member to assist, they called back and hurriedly stated they "only have 5 minutes to talk and will send some information via e-mail", but, we still did not receive anything. That trust and accountability isn't apparent at PLB. We so wanted to live at PLB, but, we have been frustrated for the last handful of monthes with unaccountability and mistrust that we have decided to move forward to live our good life somewhere else with mgmt that we trust and have faith in. Eventhough the property is enourmous and they are busy, hopefully PLB will take the time for others and keep their words to their potential "park family" in the future. Thanks for sharing.

This is the loudest place I´ve ever lived, and I´ve lived on major streets with lots of traffic. Residents aren´t allowed to received deliveries or move in or out before 8am, but the garbage picks up at 7am and they are by far louder than any UPS man.

I´ve lived in LA and never had anything stolen--until I moved here! My bike was gone within the first month and someone even had the audacity to steal bottled water off my porch before I could get home from work to put it away.

It´s true, they do charge for everything, which makes my rent almost $1800 by the time I go to the pool and gym, enjoy an awning off my apartment and park in a guaranteed spot. You've got a lot of bugs-- spiders, ants etc. They´ve repainted doors here so many times that you can´t close them. Yes, that freaks out my guests who want to use the restroom in private. What´s worse is we then shove the door closed, chipping off layer after layer of paint.

The maintenance crews are always doing something, but never quite completing the task. They started painting when I moved in and they´re still not done. Landscaping seems to be a constant job yet the palm trees look awful as they´ve not been trimmed. They took away the clotheslines when they put in the new laundry machines. The cards that have replaced the coins for the laundry are a pain and half the time the machines used to replenish the credit don´t work (I once walked through the basements of four buildings trying to get one that worked!)...

The yard out back is great, and location-wise, it's to die for, but for the money, this is no deal. Can´t wait to move.

The complex is really nice and spacious, in a location is solid, and the staff is friendly at first. But that's where the "pro's" end. The "con's" include:
-They require you to give them ALL your personal financial information including social security number, birthdate, and bank account number. (they are not in the least bit flexible about this) They could easily sell your info third parties, and there would be no way to protect yourself. In a day in age where ID theft is a big issue, you would think they'd be a little more concerned about their renters' privacy.
-The staff is immature, incompetent and inflexible. A manager actually said at one point "Well, can you want this apartment or not?" which is a pretty good characterization of how they feel about their tenants. You're just a number to them, not a tenant. They rush you to sign documents, and don't explain all the details to you. I encourage anyone who is even just putting a deposit down to read the fine print. I discovered a lot of things that I wouldn't have known otherwise. They quite often forget to mention important details.Such as, the deposit promises you nothing, and they can cancel on you at any time, and even though they tell you it's "refundable," they say that they'll keep part of the deposit if you cancel on them... not a fair deal.
-The units are quite small, and way not worth the price. The kitchen especially is tiny.

I ran across this place by mistake. I went to check out another place near by and drove by the leasing office. Once I came through the gates I was really surprised as to how it looks like a small town in the middle of all these busy sections of LA. I work downtown and when I come home it feels good to be surrounded by trees, parks, gardens, etc. They just painted the outside of my Blace and I really like all the improvemnts they are making. I also like the fact that I can walk anywhere I need to go. On saturdays I go to the Museums or the Farmers market , pick up my dry cleaning , go to a movie , nordstroms and eat at a different restaurant every weekend and not once to I have to get into my car. I am gald i found this place. $1600 for a 2bedroo/ 2 bath. worth every penny.

The Facade vs. Reality at Park La Brea Apartments, When you first visit Park La Brea Apartments, you're greeted with a picturesque park setting, complete with fountains and lush greenery. The premises boast non-smoking signs and strict pet policies, promising a serene and clean living environment. Initially, it appears as if you've found a perfect haven. but, the reality behind this idyllic facade quickly unfolds once you become a tenant. The beautiful park masks the omnipresent patrol cars and bicycles that do little to enhance security. The non-smoking policy is a mere suggestion, as corridors often reek of marijuana, exposing residents, including pregnant women and children, to secondhand smoke. The stringent pet policy unravels as you realize every dog is deemed a "service dog," yet incessant barking and poor behavior abound, contrary to expectations of service animal conduct. mgmt's outwardly friendly demeanor fades away, leaving you with unresponsive and, at times, downright rude interactions. Requests for assistance or complaints about maintenance issues like wall cracks, which require constant attention, are met with silence or empty promises. Cockroach infestations plague the apartments, compromising health and comfort, with mgmt's advice boiling down to "keep calling the patrol" – a futile suggestion that adds to the frustration. This complex, while promising peace and safety, delivers a living experience far removed from the initial impression.

We were sold a bill of goods. Shown a "model apt.", which of course looks great. Not allowed to see the apt. we rented until we paid, had key in hand and were actually moving in. Apt. was filthy. Plumming is bad. No heaters installed in apt. garbage disposal broken, air conditioners broken, some window cranks broken. And that's just SOME of the problems! Not to mention parking... At the leasing office we were told we had two spots. THEN we find out we have two spots IF they are available (which usually they are not)! We complained and were told to BUY a spot! Then we were told that Park LaBrea rental prices were lower than most in the neighborhood so that buying a parking space wasn't costly. After making some phone calls we found out that Park LaBrea is the MOST Extravagant apt. around the neighborhood. Also the only apt. to charge for trash and water!! don't RENT FROM PARK LABREA!!!!!!!

This Ppot sucks, to find parking after 8 pm is almost impossible. It's overprice, you can find a 1 bedroom somewhere else for hundreds less than what you pay here. And There's NO AIR CONDITION. Want to use the pool? you have to get a gym membership if you want to use the pool, $35 per person.

The people who live here for the most part are Farm and nice..., but the people who run thios place, aka the mgmt is awful. They make promises and then don't keep them. The agents who take you to see the units say things that aren't always true...and if you have lived here a long time, they are even leess than responsive to your needs...probable because we have such low rents and they can't wait for us to leave.
I'm sure she forgot to mention that she gets 50% off.
The maintenance workers live here too, but for 50% off that would offset the issues here.

This isn't the ------'s but some jackass stole my laundry.

.

Here is a list of reasons why you should move to Park La Brea:
(10) If you like to cross the street at night where You've got absolutely no street lights 'cause PLB is too cheap and risk getting hit by a ruthless car.
(9) If you like to see hidden fees appear on your monthly rent statement every now and then.
(8) If you like to pay for absolutely no amenities: the tennis court has been converted to a parking lot and the gym requires paid membership.
(7)If you like to be just one in a million, literally. You've got at least 100 apartments in each building, multiply that by an average of two tenants in each apartment, multiply that by the number of buildings PLB has. And that doesn't even include the townhouses.
(6) If you like to have your visitors over and not have parking spaces available for them.
(5) If you like to shower on certain mornings to not have hot, hot water.
(4) If you like to pay for a parking space That's across the street for at least $35.
(3) If you like to wait for elevators that break down constantly, are outdated, are graffitied or aren't available.
(2) If you like to re-live your dorm days. This by far is the biggest perk. PLB is so desperate to get more tenants that this apartment complex has become a dormitory. The kids are disrespectful and make loud noises at 3:00 a.m. in the morning on the weekends. I think they come from both the fashion and film schools nearby.
(1)Seriously, I had been apartment hunting and everywhere I go, the apartments that I visit, they say that they always hear people are trying to get out of PLB. Everyone! Move in if you like to find that out for yourself!
