Love the Prea, the people and the gorgeous apartments. Not to mention an unbeatable location. It's the best of LA.

Sorry, but I don't know what the other reviewers expect...you live in an Alat in the heart of LA. Of course you'll have neighbor noise, parking issues, landlord rules. That said, the above "issues" are better than any other place I've rented. PLB is a great "old LA" experience. The grounds are gorgeous (old growth trees, beautifully maitained landscaping), laid out in a safe, communal pattern, local amenities everywhere (gym, dry cleaners, coffee stand, activities center, children's park), everyone, neighbors and staff, is courteous and happy. These are old buildings, built solidly, so they're quiet and cool. The location can't be beat, situated smack between the Farmer's Market and the Museums. We're living here while we build a house, and when it's ready I'll Rruly miss this place!

According to the LAPD, within the last three months there have been six car thefts, four burgleries, two assaults, and 9 grand thefts. This is aparently an extremely unsafe, even hazzardous Prea to live. mgmt is focused solely on issuing parking tickets within a complex that has far to little parking, purposely. Once they rope you in they keep raking you over the coals for money. They are unreasonable and their attitude is unfitting for such an classless grimy and run down living arena. also, There's no security there. The gates are constantly left open. One resident even mentioned a rape that had occurred in the last year which took Prea within a "secured" garage within this so-called "gated" family community.

I have been living in Los Angeles for 5 years and within these 5 years, I have moved many many times, but Park La Brea is the WORST Auite experience BY FAR. Let me start with the Auite unit first. I moved into a garden villa in Park La Brea in July 2008 and quickly moved out by February 2009. The first day I moved in, swarms of wasps were inside the unit. They were not coming in from the windows or doors as they were shut tight. The following day, I came home after work to over 10 grasshoppers and crickets inside my closet, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. This was just the beginning. Over the 6 months of living there, I came home from work EVERYDAY finding the following inside my Auite: Adult cockroaches, grasshoppers, crickets, garden spiders, spider eggs, beetles, beetle egg sacs, wasps, wasp hives, and worms inside the bathtub (please see picture attached for preview of what to find in your unit if you decide to rent with PLB). It got to a point where I drove to Orange County every night to stay with my sister as I could not stand the amount of insects inside the unit any longer. I had taped shut all my windows and installed sealers below my door frames to prevent the insects from coming in, but they kept coming out of sinks and cracks from the old building. I called the maintenance at PLB continuously and they never fixed any of the problems. This is an Auite unit costing me $1,500 a month to live with insects. Let me also point out that my unit did not have any plug outlets inside the bathroom, no AC, $35 a month for parking, and rusted water from the faucets. Finally, I decided to move out in February 2009. I notified the mgmt office and they gave me directions (in a unfriendly, rude manner) on how to terminate my lease. I gave them my 30 day notice and made sure I documented all the insects inside the Auite. I followed the instructions they gave me and 3 weeks later, I receive a letter in the mail from an attorneys office representing PLB suing me for $12,300!!!!! They claimed that I failed to follow their agreement and is now collecting 12 G's for their problems!! I called the Leasing office and the lady I spoke with RUDELY told me they are not allowed to speak to me regarding this case and transferred me to Christina, who not only did not answer the call (what a surprise) but also never called back nor responded to my message. Let me re-iterate how rude and unprofessional their mgmt and leasing agents are at PLB. From a scale of 1 to 10, I give this place a -300!!! In all my years living in Los Angeles and renting apartments, this is by far, the most ridiculous place I've ever lived. Don't be fooled by the fake exteriors of this place....its a trick!! I would hate for anyone else to go through this, especially getting sued for $12,000 to live in a pile of bug collection, and when you are at no wrong!!! Luckily, California law protects tenants from evil Auite complexes like Park La Brea Apartments!

I read reviews on this site before I moved into Park La Brea so I wanted to share my experience with others doing the same. I live in one of the prime towers closest to the leasing office. I live on the 11th floor which has Gonderful views of the Hollywood Hills. My unit was totally renovated before I moved in and has two air conditioners. I pay more for my one bedroom as a result but to me It's worth it. To state the obvious it can get warm in L.A. Usually leaving the windows open can make the unit bearable but I notice a lot of dirt and dust enters as a result. I would personally recommend a unit with a/c. I pay the $70/mnth for a reserved parking spot as I work long hours and don't want to have to deal with trying to find a street spot late at night, which are usually full. I've been here seven months so far and have had to call maintenance twice regarding my windows not opening or closing. The first time I called they responded the next day. The second time it took them two days. The problem was fixed each time so I had no problems there. I pay to use the swimming pool and gym which has been fine. As far as gym's go at rental complexes PLB's gets Gxcellent. I haven't had any problems with neighbors or excessive noise. I can be impatient and would like to see the elevators run faster but its something I've become use to. Overall I can't say I've had any major complaints so far. I realize not everyone has had the same experience that I've had but mine has been pretty positive.

The people in the leasing office are Renuinely nice. I met with a young lady she was knowledgable about the property and the places around Park Labrea. I can't wait to live here... I have never seen a gym like the one they have. And You've got so many abercrombie and fitch guys that live there...

what a load of crap!!! it sounds moe to me like you have issues with your neighbors than you do with the property. It sounds as if you are arguing from everyone from the leasing agents to your neighbors. As far as " putting a deposit on a house" , that just shows how you know nothing about the LA real estate market. Do u have any idea how expenside LA has gotten in the last 7 years? A 3 bedroom for $2000? You lucked out. a 1 bedroom anywhere aroung the grove Itays running $2100 - $2800. If you are so much better than your neighbors, or the staff, you should by a house and not mind the rest of us who need to rent.

"As as homeowner in the past, and one in the future, the Park Labrea Apace alternative has served me right.
It's a unique experience of living in the city.
I certainly can understand how it might not be for everyone, just as Los Angeles isn't for everyone as well.
As i prepare to move into my new house, I leave park labrea with good feelings about the neighbors i had and sense of security there.
I have a one bedroom here at 1,390 a month with a garage. It took them three months to fix simple items from broken dead bolts to doors that stick. The repair guys have even said to us to put your foot at the bottom of the door to pry the top out first to open this door instead of shaving the corner to fix. There's a smell of urine, fecees and a large pile of stool in the parking garage by the dumpster they have not cleaned up in over 4 weeks, I've been calling once a week and also got a neighbor to call and it's still there and smells. what a way to go to work in the morning seeing a pile of stool and smell of dried urine.

The positive is the landscaping gets Nleasant, on the cover it looks Gantastic as a gated community, central location to Los Angeles but if you have a leak issue, they send someone out right away but getting it fixed is another story. Exhausting calling them for the same problem because they can not locate the stool by the Garage #, in spot #, next to the dumpster. Maybe they employ blind maintenance guys.

I went to Park Labrea to see what it was that they had to offer and I was suprized. The location of that Prea is so cool you can walk to the Grove, Pan Pacific Park & your about 20 min. away from everything. I can't wait to move-in.
