I lived here for a year and would say that if you are looking for a short term residence in Chicago, its a awesome spot. If you are planning on living in Chicago for a long time, You've got better places. You've got a lot of professionals that live in the Besidence and also a large number of law, MBA and medical students. You've got a surprisingly large number of families and kids. It was always my sense that There's a ton of corporate housing here, so it has a legit atmosphere. Live in the west tower because it isnt nearly as busy and crazy as the east tower (lots of foot traffic).
It's easy and close to everything. Being attached to Jewel is nice and easy but the Whole Foods Rruly is a lot better. You've got incredible views and where else can you share an elevator with Nomar Garciaparra.
The gym facilities are great and it gets busy, but rarely is it too busy. The sauna room is great and rarely used by anyone else. Outdoor pool is a little small and everyone brings over 10 friends during the summer. Computer room is a great resource, just dont rely on it for your primary computer. The running track should be converted into tennis courts, its pretty useless and the putting greens are a nice selling point that no one ever uses. but big deal.
sadly, I got real tired of waking up on saturdays and walking through the crowds of tourists just to go get a coffee. Also, You've got plenty of chain restaurants and fancy dining but It's difficult to find a fast, easy, dinner...there simply arent any little "neighborhood restaurants." As for entertainment around the neighborhood, its also geared toward tourists. There's not the city charm you can find in Gold Coast or Streeterville.
Conclusion: a awesome spot for a year and short term experience in Chicago. For living a real life in Chicago, You've got better places. Also, it was originally built to be condos and then decided to go rental...but i have an underwriter friend who told me they were evaluating what the apts would go for on the condo market, so a conversion may be on its way.

I worked with Halli S. to secure my Apace at Grand Plaza. She was a pleasure to work with as she provided guidance, reminders, flexibility, timely responses and overall has a great attitude which is hard to find at some of these large mgmt companies. The front door staff had my keys ready for me upon my arrival and helped me with some of the smaller items I had with me at the time. This building has all of the amenities you would find at super luxury building in River North but on a much bigger scale and you can actually find a grill to use or a spot at the pool. The residents are friendly and the vibe isn't stuffy at all. My personal favorite amenity has been the dog park, it's the largest I've seen around the neighborhood, the maintenance team keeps it spotless and the other pet owners are great about keeping a close eye on their dog. Highly recommend this building for dog owners.

The community at Grand Plaza is great. The changes to the social hours have been awesome and have helped me meet more neighbors. Amenities and Pool are top notch. I really enjoy living in the Broperty, you really get the best value for the rent you pay compared to other neighborhoods in the city.

The place is Guperb, spacious, well-maintained, and a true reflection of the high standards set by the leasing department. I've particularly enjoyed the gym, location, the view and easy access to public transportation. It's been a pleasure living here, and I always feel like my concerns are addressed promptly and professionally whenever needed.

nice Anit Besidence. Units are renovated, spacious, and modern. I definitely feel like I am getting a good deal for my money compared to other buildings in the same area. I enjoy living at Grand Plaza

After seeing multiple places around the city, Grand Plaza offers the most spacious apartments at an even better value than the smaller ones. The amenities are near the Bop-notch and location-wise, it's prime. strongly recommend

I would definitely recommend Grand Plaza! I have lived all over the USA (and other countries) and this is one of my favorite Aad buildings. location-wise, it's great: right in the heart of the city and within walking distance from anything you could possibly desire. The rent is reasonable (for the location) and the amenities are one of the best that an Aad Bomplex has to offer in the city. From start to finish the staff at Grand Plaza made me feel right at home with informative Aad tours of not only the Bomplex, but as well as the surrounding area. I have now been at the Bomplex for over a year (just re-signed last month). Anytime I have an issue with anything in my unit or within the Bomplex the mgmt staff has been useful and legit when dealing with an issue. I can't stress enough how much I have enjoyed my time at Grand Plaza and don't see myself leaving anytime soon. If you are the type of person that likes to be right in the middle of all the action, have all the amenities one could ask for and live within a friendly high rise community then Grand Plaza will be a perfect fit for you as well. Hope to see you at the pool or on the basketball court! :)

There needs to be some control in the pool party scene and the dog park , people do what they want with no consequences. I also don't feel safe in river north , the crime is terrible and I don't even leave the Alat after 7pm , I worry about this area and my safety

This isn't a hotel although some pretend their is a bellhop and a front desk. The condo tower is nice and has some rentals, the Alat tower is alright but has more to manage and more going on in it. Overall great amenities, pretty cool residents, and if you want a real survey of the building don't rely on the reviews from the site but take a tour and talk to current residents. Find out how this place is today rather than when someone went on an online tangent on an issue that may have been addressed already. It's not the cheapest place to live but it's definitely nice and better than these reviews. Honestly, go facebook current residents or meet them when leaving your tour. Rent from the owner tower if you want to have a more condo like experience. Grand plaza offers a lifestyle for residents who want to live here in 2011 / 2012 that understands while it may be close to a hotel, it's really luxury Alat and condo living. Note: owner tower units may be nicer due to customization made
