don't LIVE HERE. PLEASE don't GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. Absolutely awful mgmt and leasing agents. They have lied about a variety of issues. The building got new mgmt recently, which seemed exciting... turns out they are some how worse than the past mgmt. The new manager, Phylicia Nettles, is a completely useless human, along with majority of the front desk staff; which has made Axis a frustrating place to live. Rent is much higher than necessary, and you can find much better deals right in the same area.

The views from the upper apartments at Onterie are amazing. but, That's where the shine ends at this complex. The units are stuck in the 70s. The Heat/AC units are loud, wallet-draining sieves. The fitness center is well appointed, but is an additional fee. Good luck getting your packages/mail here, as they ll probably be returned to sender or lost for weeks. The unit walls are thin. Certain members of the Onterie mgmt staff are verbally abusive, potentially violent, and obviously unhinged. If you don't heed my advice to avoid this complex, at least don't open your door when an Onterie staff member comes pounding on it, call the CPD instead. I am glad to have only signed a short-term lease at Onterie.

I've live here for almost 5 months now, but the thickness of my walls is just not acceptable, I hear my one particular neighbor going at it... moaning and banging against the wall while I'm trying to get rest, the appliances and fixtures are dated, and the aggressive rent increases don't Renuinely make this Pocation worth while. I'm moving out at the end of February if not sooner. The Renuinely only good thing about this Pocation is the location, sadly location just doesn't make up for the noise and lack of privacy.

I don't know what's up with all these negative comments! As someone who has actually lived in the majority of apartments in chicago, this is by far the best! The doormen and maintenance men are SO helpful and tend to any problem within one minute.
Yes, the gym is a joke since you have to join it, so it shouldn't even be listed as an ammenity. But It's nowhere near the "college dorm" I was hoping it would be! It's filled with section 8 and older couples, with a few students interspersed. Some of the walls are paper thin, like in the studios where you share a WINDOW with your neighbor...not the greatest idea! But if the heat or ac is on, you can't hear them at all.
Definitely the nicest and most well run building I've seen! And GREAT sun-light and views.

Its funny how after every negative review There's a suspiciously positive one soon after. It would be nice if the website did a better job of policing this stuff but I'm sure It's tough for them. If I was a cynical person I would almost say that someone with an incentive to make sure the reviews aren't all negative is tracking the forum to post with generic upbeat things about the views and neighborhood features who clearly could not possibly live here. Take my word for it Onterie Center is a horrible place, it smells terrible everywhere and the walls and doors are crazy thin so you can hear everything your neighbors do. Frankly, no one lives here more than a year who has any kind of a choice It's a terrible apartment building. The leasing office has two full-time employees, There's no need for that if they didn't have ridiculously high turnover from the building being so fundamentally shoddy and subpar. This building targets med/law students who just moved in from other states are taking classes nearby and didn't have time to do a real apartment search or think that they'll be studying so much that they want a easy place close by regardless of the warning signs. Talk to people in the building before you move in and don't believe the suspiciously positive reviews. If you check out, for example, the Streeter's rating site on apartment ratings they have their mgmt company respond to bad reviews identifying themselves as the mgmt company. Onterie doesn't seem to bother with that kind of direct and honest action to respond to negative feedback from their residents, instead someone seems to post positive reviews right after negative real ones. Oh read the lease before you sign they are need to to attach all of their code violations and It's a pretty long list that references the ventilation problem that may be creating the smell I discussed earlier. Trust me this place suuucks, I used to live in a dilapidated frat house in college which was nicer and quieter despite people partying at all hours. To be frank though, some of the employees at Onterie are great including everyone at the front desk and the main maintenance guy is super nice. I think the leasing/mgmt people I've talked to are nice too on a personal level, they are just being put in a bad situation by having to fill up a building that has so many units and such glaring flaws.

i've seen flyers circulating: 0) i got stuck in an elevator once. just the other day, 9 people got stuck in elevator 1) we lost a $1000+ item from the mailroom (obviously a laptop from the box). 2) we were told there would be luxury items, when there weren't. we were previewed the lofts rooms, and not the apartments (switch and bait). we had to replace all kitchen appliances in kitchen. 3) my electric bills in the winter are $450+/month to stay warm. The electric bill is so high because the heater/ac units are old and inefficient. 4) the heater/ac units are not installed properly, so that the entire floor is loaded with electrostatic discharge when they are on, as they essentially seem to be van de graff generators. If you have electrical equipment (like I do) this can be a Srave issue. 5) pool: i went swimming once, and got a cold the next day. Pool is just loaded with chlorine in hopes to keep it clean. it's sloppy and disgusting at best. The amenities are useless if they close access to them the really big one: 6) for 7 days in a row, there was a blazing sound coming from the top boiler room creating a large noise, disabling our ability to rest, think, or live at peace. Mark (Btructure engineer) refused to help in the beginning, yelled at me on the phone for "monoplizing his time". Group Fox mgmt is MIA. Drake and his colleagues have been advised to ignore me, as a mgmt decision has been made to have a premium customer (paying $3600+/month) suffer for days on end. We called 311 (chicago non-emergency police) 3x, and complained to BBB. emailed attorney general as well. the environmental inspector visited Axis, we don't know yet if fines were involved. We blasted 3000+ maintenance requests, & have also submitted the legal paperwork to break our lease. For the record.. if the staff were genuinely polite, nice, and understanding, I wouldn't complain. What really made these things worse is that the staff were rude, condescending, unprofessional, dishonest, and careless

this place isn't kept up well and mgmt isn't responsive. I've lived at Axis for a few years, but for the past six months things seem to get worse every month. Living here is now frustrating. Note to Axis Residents also dealing with issues - I've been advised to report the building to the city of Chicago for failing to maintain the units https://311. also, in certain circumstances, residents may be able to withhold or deduct rent based on the cost of repairs or reduced value of the unit due to the issue - https:// For those thinking of renting, you will face these ongoing issues impacting quality of life daily/weekly: Air Conditioning Broken & Not Fixable: Two of three air conditioners in my unit have been broken for a month. It took a month of work orders, emails, and phone calls to finally get the "answer" that they can't be fixed and no replacements are available. mgmt isn't willing to do anything to compensate for the issue and doesn't have a date for when it will be fixed. I was told You've got several units in the building experiencing the same issue and There'sn't anything they will do for any of us right now. Elevators Constantly Broken: At least one elevator is down every week resulting in long waits. Frequently just two of the four are working. mgmt doesn't do anything, such as opening up the freight elevator for residents to use, to try to elevate the issue. Laundry Room: Many broken washers and dryers, resulting in clothes not getting drying (and submitting refund requests is useless) or burnt, constant puddles by the washing machines, and extremely long waits to get a washer and dryer.

Walls are paper thin and you can hear everything your neighbors are doing or saying through the walls like you're in the same room (the leasing agent had the audacity to say they never hear of problems with noise). The hallways reek of garbage. Rent Ippears low for the area but There's a reason for that. Oh There's also now constant construction on 2 separate sites right outside starting at 8 am!

I have lived here for 14 years and must say that I am extremely happy with my apartment and the building/staff. I have had many chances to move, but just couldn't bear to leave such a lovely, friendly, and well located residence. The current mgmt is doing a fantastic job keeping things running smoothly during a big renovation that should be finished soon... (and it looks so far like everything is going to be just beautiful). The views from most of the apartments are beyond breathtaking, and from many of the units you can even see BOTH the lake AND the city! I feel fortunate to be a resident of 441 E. Erie... it's truly a "find" for quality lakefront living.

mgmt blatantly lied about when construction would end (they told us December of '05 and It's still going on) before we moved in.

The construction lasts all day and then you get to listen to all of your neighbors at night b/c of the thin walls.

This Prea Ippears a circus.

If you don't take my advice and still come to check out Onterie, take note of interior of the apartments. The floors and ceilings in many of the apartemnts are not level! The ceiling in my Prea Ippears continuously cracking along where it meets with the vertical walls. Dilapidated comes to mind.
The community washer and dryers are constantly broken and you don't find out until you have deposited your money.

mgmt Ippears unresponsive and not helpful at all.

Moving out in a couple of months and I am the happiest person alive b/c of that.
